Could I be falling for my bestfriend?

I think I may be falling for my bestfriend. We have known each other for a long time and he used to like me when we first met and I told him no because I wasn't attracted to him and didn't think of him that way (I was very young back then). We have remained friends and we are very close. I think maybe this closeness is confusing me at the moment. I feel exhilarated by these new feelings and yet they frighten me too. Has anyone else gone through something similar? I find myself more open to flirting with him and being more open to him in general. We go out a lot, date like things as friends, so maybe I'm getting confused and just feel like I am falling for him?

 

I wonder how common this is, I'm guessing it is pretty common.
