It sounds like whoever the partner is, the singing one can't live without them and it hurts them when they're away. It makes them realize how much they need that person and what they would do to get closer. It also might mean that originally you came out of nowhere which sparked the relationship but ultimately you broke up... Link to comment

They may have a meaning that the writer was trying to convey, but even still they can have a totally different meaning to the listener. So the lyrics mean whatever they mean to you when you listen to them. Link to comment

This is however one of those songs that is written in such a way as to mean whatever the listener thinks it is, but love and loss and longing, those are the emotions evoked by the lyrics.
