Allergies and sore throat!!

Recommended Posts

I am getting the worst sore throats at night which keep me awake. I have them all morning too until my meds kick in. I tried taking benadryl at night and it didn't help. Anyone know how to get rid of a sore throat caused by allergies??? would a humidiphier work???

thanks

the sore throat is probably from post-nasal drip. is the benadryl at night not working? i like zyrtec as my allergy medication. Walgreens has lots of coupons for zyrtec.

i'm not sure if a humidifier would help, i'm actually not a huge fan of them because bacteria can grow in the water tank and then get spread all over the room. if you get one, get a cold water humidifier and wash it well once a week.

Over the long haul, you're going to end up spending a ton of money on meds and quick fixes that don't really work. Why not just parlay all that money in advance and treat yourself to one of these:

Honestly, you could spend a month researching air purifiers, and you'll still end up realizing that this is the one you need, and that it's worth every penny. I have had horrible allergies for years now. After I bought this, they virtually disappeared within two days. I am even thinking of buying a less expensive unit for my office.

Why be miserable? This is your health we're talking about here. Just make the wise investment because you're worth it.

p.s. No, I don't work for the company nor stand anything to gain by the sale of this. I simply believe in it and offer up the same sincere advice that I offer up when it comes to relationships and romance.

I have terrible allergies, allergic rhinitis and hayfever and dust allergies, i have invested in humidifiers and became amost addicted to Olbas Oil! as I couldn't breathe without it. Eventually went to see an ENT specialist who looked inside all my sinuses, tubes, nose, down my throat.. nothing sinister just allergies! so he prescribed a nasal wash called Sterimar Isotonic 100% natural sea water spray, it jets a spray of salt water right up your nose into your sinuses and it drips down your throat, cleans everything out.

I use it about five times a day and I also have a very mild steroid spray called Nasonex which helps. I have to also take loratadin antihistamine on a daily basis, all year round.

I am pregnant at the moment and can only use my salty nasal wash, I tell you, I am suffering but not half as bad as I would be without it. Try it xx

I take zyrtec all day but it doesnt help at night and the benedry doesnt either. would a cold mis humidiphier release cold mist? dumb question but I thought it was supposed to be warm to help?

Well at night the dust settles, air purifier would do wonders even during the day. Cold air mist humidifier may help also if it's dry. Even during winter time cold mist works just as good; this was recommended by a doctor when we asked if warm vs. cold makes a difference. We use this model from Vicks:

As far as your throat goes, I would do salt gargle with relatively hot water, enough to tolerate it and do so few times a day. Neti pot is another option you have.

How long has this been going on for? weeks? Have you been to a doctor rule out a potential viral infection? If they can tell the difference that is.

Does this happen every season or just this season?

FWIW - my mother has had an irritating cough for about 2 months now. The doc has jumped between viral or allergy diagnosis over these past months. However, he ALSO stated that he is seeing a heck of a lot of these persistent cough cases come in this season. None severe. Just irritating and affecting sleep.

I normally don't get congested badly during spring but this year is very bad, a lot of co-workers are talking about this as we are in and out of the building all day. The pollen count seems to be in the double digits everyday for the past few weeks. Northeast is seeing some nasty allergy season!

i just said not warm because it's easier for bacteria to grow in it.

if you get one, make sure to wash it well once a week with white vinegar and dry it out completely.
