Sign of interest: arm around back of my chair

Is it a sign of interest if a guy I'm sitting near at a dinner party puts his arm around the back of my chair and keeps it there the whole time? Would you do that to somone you weren't into?

I would say its a good sign he likes you, kind of like marking his territory by using that kind of body language!

That is an interesting question.

Actually, that is the kind of things I have often wondered about.

It's really very subtle; almost subconscious.

As a woman, I'd love if a guy I fancy did that, at the very very early stage of a relationship. I'd be inclined to take that as a sign of interest but always with a grain of salt.

i don't even do that with women that i like. i usually don't even do that with women i'm dating. not at a dinner table anyways. i rub their backs if i'm with them. i would say they like you. you said dinner parties, so this has happened more than once? why are you always sitting next to each other? somebody may be setting you up.

YEp, its definitely a positive sign. There is no doubt about that. I wouldn't do that to anybody I wasn't interested in.

I've done that to guys' and girls' chairs - hell, one of each on each side before, at school. It's just a way for me to stretch out and relax. I like to take up space and unwind; sometimes that involves me taking up other people's space, armrests, chairs, whatever.

 

Maybe I'm just inconsiderate.
