Why say 'I love you' and then never call again?

I was out at a bar with my guy, I was drunk and got argumentative - I don't usually get argumentative at all. But he said he wanted to leave because it was late, and for whatever reason I got mad and started to argue with him about that.

So I think he wasn't getting why I was mad at him, he was trying to say he was just tired and wanted to go home and wasn't purposely trying to hurt me, and then he said 'I love you' - he'd never said that before.

Well right after he said that, his friend swooped in and they started whispering for a few moments, and then he tried to leave by going out the other direction, without saying good-bye or anything!

So I got mad again and went over and told him I didn't understand why he was being a jerk, and then left myself.

 

Now since then, that was like a month ago, he will barely talk to me or call me back. I really don't understand because before that, I thought things were really going pretty good and we were getting pretty close. That is the only time I've ever started an argument like that - I even called him the next day and left a msg apologizing for doing so. He blew me off for our new years eve plans (never called back to talk about them) and won't call me back at all, even when I have had to call him about non-us type things.

 

So I'm really confused and hurt, I don't get why he is suddenly acting this way? I will have to see him again, we have mutual friends and hang out at the same places. I am not sure what to do when I do see him again.

It was most likely the alcohol. It does that....

I agree with hosswhispra, alcohol causes us to do things that we later regret.

 

As for your buddy, I think he's being a cad for holding that against you because of one incident, and pulling away from you because of that.
