Working for company AFTER you've finished your notice period

Just wondering if anyone has found themselves in this situation and how common it is? A friend of mine has been working out his notice period with current employer but one of the bosses there has asked him to do work post- notice as a favour as they're understaffed. What's the legality of this? Doesn't handing in your notice mean they have to stop asking you to help them out after a certain date? I find it very odd! any thoughts?

Your friend is under no obligation to continue working for the company if he doesn't want to. He certainly shouldn't do it without being paid.

 

Asking an employee to continue isn't illegal. But the employee can turn them down if they wish.
