Contact, or no contact?

This is the first time I'm actually asking for advice, so here it goes. There's two things:

Frist, we never really had a clean break. There are a lot of strings left dangling, and quite frankly, the wound is still glistening.

 

I feel like it would help me if I sent a letter to my ex just to explain how I feel. She wants to remain friends, and the letter just says a few simple things about my feelings on that. I basically says that I think I could do that one day, but right now it's just too hard for me.

 

While it seems like a good idea now, will she just consider it a form of emotional blackmail??

 

Second, I have something of hers that she wants back. Should I mail it to her, or bring it to her house?

 

I thought I had the answers to these questions, but now I'm not so sure. I guess I'm just trying to make sure I don't do anything stupid.
