When a guy smiles at a chick and she looks down and to the side and smiles a bit, she's interested right? I was just checking.

usually it means she's trying to act shy or is blushing, i'd definitely take it as a good thing. but thats just me personally

I think she's doing the shy thing, and probably has some sort of interest or else she probably wouldn't have hinted at a smile. If you really feel something, go for it!

I would talk to her if I was you.. what your instincts say? If you're generally good at reading body language, you can trust your instincts quite a bit. Looking down is usually a good sign, vs. looking to side. Looking directly to side, I have noticed that it's maybe more like: "oh f... I was staring at that guy.. didn't even notice he was there" looking down would be more of shy reaction. I've caught myself doing those both, however it's not a rule, if a girl looks at side after eye contact, it doesn't mean you lost. Also her looking down doesn't mean instant success. Look at what usually happens, and more importantly talk to her.
