Inevitable breakup

Just looking for some advice from someone (and I'm sure there's TONS of people who have gone through this) that has broken up with the mother/father of their child. My relationship with my sons father has always been rocky. We started off on a bad foot and cheating was involved. The day I found out I was pregnant I was considering breaking up with him but I stayed in hopes of making it work for our child. Fast forward almost 2 years, he's cheated (once that I know of for sure)...we don't trust each other. We're both extremely controlling. I feel emotionally abused, neither of us do anything outside of being with each other. It's toxic. And it's going to eventually come to an end and we both know that. I just can't IMAGINE not having my son every day. How do you guys cope with sharing your child?
