CamaroJoe
I wonder what it would be like to sail on an ocean of the bitter tears spilt by those who lost loved ones to a stranger......how many stadiums could you feel with the people killed at war?...Now you look me in the eyes and tell me what it's good for!........Absolutely nothing! Heretic
Well it's good for the economy if you win... it's also good because it spurs on technological advances. It causes revolutions which can change the face of the world. Quite honestly it's good for a lot of things. Is it worth the price of the lives involved? Nope. Ghandi proved wars can be won through benevolence , so even revolutions don't need to be fought. It's an absolete system we have yet to replace. However you have to remember the soldiers who fight, fight for you. Many of them gave up their lives to help people they'd never even met before. They put their lives at risk, gave up freedoms and love to fight for someone they know nothing about. It doesn't matter how corrupt the people in charge of the war are, most soldiers are self-sacrifical. You should respect and honor them. They do something you probably aren't capable of. jimbucktwo1776
How could anyone think war isn't worth the lives of the people taken in it. They must not be an American- I know it was over 200 years ago, but I think the Revolutionary War was worth it. I love FREEDOM. Not all wars are worth the cost of the lives they take. But some wars are. Clearly the purpose of the war dictates whether the cost is worth it. To overcome oppression/slavery-and the like, Giving life to make others free is worth it. Anyone who thinks otherwise should visit any one of the communist-socialist-authoritarian nations around. See how they like the status quo. And by they, I mean those not in power. Never forget that the freedom you enjoy as Americans was paid for at the cost of many lives. Now you tell me, was it worth it? Jimbucktwo1776 That's that. Link to comment
Heretic
Canada never fought any revolutionary war and we're free. War steals freedom it doesn't win it. I'm pretty sure India, Hong Kong, Australia, etc. didn't have to fight for their freedom either. It's not worth it... not at all. I mean honestly... you're the only country who fought a revolution against the British. Can't you see that was a mistake? Link to comment
jimbucktwo1776
A mistake-never. Sometimes freedom has to be stolen for it to be realized. For when it is realized, the realization is that it was not stolen, only returned to it's rightful keepers-the individuals. Cubans don't revolt either, wonder what they think. Wonder what Red China thinks of freedom? Australia, well, weren't they originally an island for criminals? We could debate this for hours I suppose. Freedom is the nature of man, and controlling others is also in mans nature, when that control over powers the freedom, then you have revolution. What about the French Revolution? Agree or disagree? Heretic
If you think the french revolution was a good idea I hope there aren't many more people like you in the States. Don't get me wrong I'm not insulting your intelligence, you sound like you've got a good head on your shoulders... It's just I question your morals... that's all. I mean the same stuff that caused that bloodbath are happening today. The ecomony is all out of whack, the rich are getting richer and the poor poorer. If goods and services cost equal to the labour involved the system would stay level. If people didn't hoard money the system would also work better. The problem is everyone wants a piece of the pie, and some get it more easily then others. Though if you believe in the American ideal of freedom (which is widely excepted internationally as the right one) it's their right to screw the little guys as much as they want, I mean they run the country so why not right? If you look at it that way, they have the true freedom and everyone else just lives for them in one way or another. Yeah that's pretty much the way pre-revolution France was. You're right though we could debate this for years and never come to an agreement... perhaps another time in another forum we'll get the chance to discuss it.... Actually if you want feel free to PM me and we can chat about this so we don't clog the board Look forward to hearing more of your side, Heretic. Link to comment
jimbucktwo1776
hey hey, I didn't give an opinion on the french revolution-reread my post. I only asked a question-showing no bias for either or, that's all. I've PMed you the rest of my response. Jimbucktwo1776 Link to comment
