What to say?

My g/f's grandma is about to pass soon - maybe within this or next month, I don't know - shes (her gran) hangin in there though. But I don't know what to say/do when she actually passes - I haven't been in a situation like this many times and many of MY Grandparents passed away when I was young so I didn't know back then.

Suggestions?

I know you don't want to hear this, but nothing that you say is going to make any of them feel any better, so the polite thing to do would be to offer your sympathies and let your girlfriend know you're there for her if she wants to talk or needs a shoulder to cry on.

Um.. well, I'm not very good at this so... examples of what to say (a.k.a. sympathetic stuff sayings) since like i said, haven't encountered this kind of stuff alot in past.

you basically have to end up sounding like a hallmark card.

 

"I'm so sorry she passed."

 

"Remember, she isn't suffering anymore."

 

"If you need anything, I'm here"

 

"want to go do something to get your mind off things for a while"

I think its more what you do than what you say. She'll probably get a hundred people telling her how sorry they are for her loss. You should say it too, but try to do something extra to let her know you care about her. If she needs a shoulder to cry on, be that shoulder. Hold her and comfort her. Maybe take her someplace fun to try to get her mind off of it and any grief she may be feeling. Help her out in any way you can. Basicaly, just be there for her and be supportive.
