Hi Meagan,

I'm not an expert on this issue by any means, however, I have learned a little about cutting. It is basically a way of dealing with emotions. When someone is sad, stressed or angry they might cry, talk or (yell) etc. to help release the anxiety. When you cut yourself it is your way of releasing that anxiety. As I'm sure you already know, it's not the best way to deal with feelings and it is dangerous. I hope this helped.

Here is a site that can give you all kinds of information on cutting.

I have done some research on the subject. When you cut yourself, it triggers release of endorphins. This chemical, endorphin, relaxes the person and reduces pain. Unfortunately, it is also addictive. Once you start cutting it is very hard to stop because your body has become used to having this level of edorphin in the system so when it doesn't, you feel you must cut to get a "high" of sorts.

There are other ways of releasing this chemical. Eating chocolate, for example. Exersize and sex are also proven to release endorphins.

There are my two cents!
