See this instant in time

From such innocent days

A carefree young boy

With so much to learn

 

He marvelled at nature

The sun and the snow

Time marked in seasons

The cycles of life

 

But he thought too deeply

Took on the world's pain

Now afraid of the future

It was easier to hide

 

A truth found through tears

He'll sink, never swim

Wanted his part in eternity

Oh I know how he tried

 

Some tried to love him

But his pain ran too deep

He chose being lonely

Over others getting hurt

 

No concept of the future

No comfort in the past

Had friendship and laughter

But the sun set so fast

 

Can't look in his eyes now

How I failed him so badly

Yes, he grew up to be me

So hard to go on without him
