Where are the jobs and why is it so difficult to find them ? Who is really doing the hiring and is it that important like it used to be to have a college degree.

I have only been out of school for two years now, but I am already on my second job. I found out about both jobs from people I knew.

So to find out who is hiring, I would ask people you know.

Victor is right, the best jobs out there are not advertised, rather they are opportunities that come from networking. Networking by far is more powerful than any job search board, recruiter, or online application.

Networking works because you are being referred by someone who is already inside the company or who has information that can land you the job.

I totally agree with you on that too.

My last two jobs, I was able to get them, becoz the people who were hiring knew me from someone else. It kind of creates a trust. They rather hire someone they know than someone they don't know.

But you must be in par in terms of expereince and qualification.

Well, I haven't been in the job market that long, I finished college last May. I had the job I am currently in before I graduated... about two months before I graduated actually.

However, the field I am in has a very high turnover rate, so it is somewhat easy to find a job here - however, while the pay is awesome for me, a single girl who doesn't have lots of expenses, it would definitely not be enough to sustain a family.

To be honest, I am a little scared about finding a job when I return to the States... going to start my search way early, hopefully about 6 months before I return.
