Repairing a Broken Heart - the Long Road Ahead

Heartbreak is one of life’s most difficult challenges. It shakes us to our core, hitting us with waves of despair and hopelessness that diminishes hope and erodes growth. Whether your heartbreak was caused by an unreciprocated love, break-up, divorce, or death of a loved one, it feels like everything that used to fill us up with joy, love, and life has faded away.

In this state, one can feel completely helpless, truly broken and willing to give up on any prospect of a brighter future. But in times like these, we need to remember that every storm eventually passes and a new light awaits. When we're feeling lost, clouded by despair, know that there are better days ahead and that we can rebuilt our lives, brick by brick, just like repairing a broken wall.

As impossible as it may feel, the only way to move away from the darkness of heartbreak is by walking through it, and gradually pulling away - like peeling an onion layer by layer. Take a step back and look at your situation objectively. What can you learn from it? What patterns can you identify? Make it a point to acknowledge your emotions and validate them without judgement, as holding onto grief and sadness without processing it can have a detrimental effect on one’s mental health.

Inspiration is also key for self-improvement. No matter how great life might be for those around us, some find solace in seeking external inspiration to nurture us mentally - whether it be meditation, reading, or engaging in physical activities, whatever helps you emotionally. It could be spending time with a friend or family member, who can offer support and help keep things in perspective.

Most of all, in order to heal our broken heart, we need to allow ourselves the permission to feel, then forgive and ultimately let go. The previous chapters of life hold special memories that are meant to stay with us regardless of the outcome, if we learn and take them with us in our journey then even the most painful experiences can become life lessons that we embrace.

It takes time to rebuild the wall and make things whole again. We don't have to forget about the past but rather use it to propel us forward. After all, however insurmountable the situation may feel, it will pass and stability will come eventually. Perhaps not overnight, but little by little, we will find strength in the process of healing if we stay the course.
