i have somewhat of a problem. There is this girl i like who is 13 or 14. I'm 16. First of all, that's sort of a problem because she is in middle school while i am a high school junior, though a year young for 11th grade. Whatever, i dont mind too much about that. The problem is, she knows i like her, and she sent me a note saying she was confused about why i liked her, and that maybe this was a bad time under the circumstances. I replied, telling her why i liked her, and saying that if it was a bad time i could wait. HERE'S THE PROBLEM: I cant wait!!!!!!! i really like this girl, i think she is perfect for me. So anyway i havent seen or talked to her since then, that was 3 weeks ago. Now i'm thinking about calling her up (found her number in the phonebook)... my friend says i should start off by asking if she wants to hang out, go to lunch with me or something. That seems to make sense to me. Does that make sense to you? So i was about to call her about half an hour ago, but now im really chickening out. Somebody please help me, i need some advice!! please!!!! Thanks

listen, i really don't think it's all that bad for you to like a 14 year old girl, no matter what other people say. Im in a similar situation, not such a big gap, but it's close. When i asked adults i know about my problem, they all thought it would be ok, and a guy i really look up to and respect told me about his friends son, who at 19 was dating a 13 year old girl. The families of both parties had absolutely no prob with it, because they were familiar with the each of the guys. My advice to you would be to get to know the family of the girl too, so that you don't run into problems. As to the basic idea of it, i think its fine.
