stl123
I've started doing different types of pushups to help numerous muscles. my question is should I continue to do it everyday or every other day like weight lifting? Link to comment

Joe509
no dont do it EVERYDAY because your muscles need to recover and gain strength. if you do push ups every day it wont be alot of improvement but do weighted push ups or sit ups for best results Link to comment
Michael2
I reccomend everyday, take the weekends off. To each is own. Link to comment
tonytone
Joe's right. I would do them one day on, one day off. But if you start to lift heavy weights then wait like 3-4 days before working the same muscle.Your muscles need to recover. P.S. Eat some fish, chicken, or beef for protien. Peace, tonytone Link to comment
Happy_Go_Lucky_Heb
Yea, every 2nd or 3rd day. The muscles need time to tone, working on them breaks them up to build new ones. Toning is when it establishes itself. When you feel the pain and aching, that's when the process of toning is occurring. Happy Heb Link to comment
Rossiya
Also do different amounts of reps each day so your muscles dont addapt to the quantity... also do swiss ball pushups(aka Jail house pushups)... Rest your shins up at an angle, while keeping your back strait, with arms at shoulder width. link removed has a lot of good workouts, and other information on building muscle not just becoming a body builder. Also dont do pushups every day, you can do damage to your muscles by overworking them and not giving them time to heal. If you were to get a massage on each muscle every time you worked out, you would be able to workout every day because if the massage therapist is good he/she will push out all the bad proteins in your muscles that usually cause you to ake the next day. vfunkera
push-ups and press-ups develop muscles all around the body at once, though i have noticed they are not as effective as weights and/or targeting. If you want a toned body, then i would try to do push-ups everyday, but only upto when your body/arms starts to ache- then stop, then the next day start again when your body doesn't ache. Set yourself a target, and then go up 5 or 10 everyday. For muscle building, hit it hard everyday, but use common sense as well- don't over do it. Alternatively, if you use weights and want a toned body, then use a low amount of weights and do as many as you can. Follow the same routine as push-ups- stop around about when it starts to hurt. If you want to build muscles, then aim high, and pump as much as you can, but remember to take days off during this routine, and to target different areas in different days. Good luck Link to comment
