restraining order question

I filed for a restraining order from an exboyfriend who has been threatening me and threatening to send naked pictures of me all over. It was just approved today and is being sent to be served to him. He is harassing me really really bad tonight, and im just wondering how long until the restraining order is in affect? Will it not be until after the court date? Or is it when he gets served?
