RelaxByWater84
So two weeks ago I was in the shower and I felt a lump. I didn't think anything of it and went on with life, however, it has grown and it hurts a bit. I'm getting it checked out on April the nineth. I'm just scared that it could be cancer. I can't get cancer at this time of my life. I have one more semester of school left and then I'll have my degree. But then I've observered there is no convienant time in life to get cancer. Has anyone had a lump that it has turned out fine. Even after I get it checked out don't they have to do a biopsy just to be sure its not cancer?
RayKay
Just to assure you, MOST lumps are benign cysts or calcium deposits, etc that happen due to hormones, caffeine, etc. If your doctors were very worried they would have you in; but of course don't let them dismiss it as nothing to worry about before it is checked either! My family has a very strong history of breast cancer (mum was diagnosed last year too) and so I am vigilant on checking breasts and DO find lumps, that generally go away during my cycle (hormones change during month and can trigger them). I know it seems weird too but if it hurts...it is often less likely to be cancerous. That is not to say one that hurts is not, or one that does not hurt is....but generally it is the case that one that hurts is an infected cyst or duct which is why it hurts, whereas cancer tumours in the breast are a growth of cancer cells that are not infected and swollen. Just get it checked out, check it regularly and rest assured it is likely fine. GOOD LUCK AND KEEP US UPDATED!
RelaxByWater84
Just a clarification the lump is in the crease where my thigh and torso meet.
RayKay
It can still be a swollen gland or a cyst there though too - not automatically cancer, even an infected hair follicle. Just get it checked out and try and be patient and calm; I know it is tough!
kellbell
Hey there, Does cancer run in your family? Chances are, you are okay because of your age but it never hurts to be safe. When I was around your age, I also found a lump. Very small, hard, pea-sized. I was so SCARED! So, I had it checked out, had an ultra sound and it turned out to be a very small superfical cyst. I was told they are very common in women whom are in their 20s and never had children. Young women's breasts to be very firm and fibrous. I also had another friend whom found a lump and it kept getting bigger. She was terrified to get it checked. Turned out to be an ingrown hair that kept getting worse and worse. It was so bad, it had to be surgically removed. I am sure you okay but it is good to have it checked out. Good luck and take care. StillClimbing
I used to get large, painful cysts from waxing/shaving my bikini line or from underwear that was rubbing the skin there. If it's growing, painful and warm to the touch it could just be a bacterial infection there. They will either open it (like a blister) to drain the infection and/or give you antibiotics. Keep the area very clean, wear loose, cotton clothes and underwear and dont play with it. It coud also just be a swollen lymph node responding to a small infection somewhere else in your body. Unlikely that it is cancer in that spot. Don't worry.

Cadence308
It sounds like there's a chance it could be cancer. I am glad that you are getting it checked out and wish that you would have the first time you noticed it. My ex girlfriend said she noticed the same thing a few years ago, but couldn't get into the doctor. I think she kind of blew off making an apointment. Anyway, she had a very advanced form of breast cancer that metastaized very quickly and by the time she got into the doctor it was stage 4 terminal cancer. By the time I met her she had gone one round of chemotherapy, was getting ready to have her breast removed, and begin her second round of chemotherpay. Just get it checked out ASAP! I hope it's not cancer and just a swollen lymph node for your sake.
RelaxByWater84
Cancer does not run in family, however, a tenth of my high school graduating class has/had cancer and my class was small. I'm just psyching myself out right now not knowing what it is. Thanks all for your replies. I'll keep you all posted.
robowarrior
The initial scare can be horrible, actually i thought i had a disease but was so reluctant to go see a doctor, that i kept walking for years with it, then on a foggy day (where no one could see me) i decided i let it get checked out, it turned out to be nothing. (or in other words years of stress for no reason) Don't be like me, just get it checked asap.
coollady1957
I understand your concern. When we have something out of the ordinary going on with our bodies, sometimes we automatically assume the worst. I am glad you are having it checked out. Odds are that it would be nothing of a life threatening nature. I have been through several different issues, in which I assumed the worst and worried myself silly for weeks. I do realize how hard it is not to worry., I am hoping the best for you , and please keep us updated on how you are doing with that and what you find out from when you see the Dr.
MeganJoy83
Hi there. I had a bump on the very inner part of my thigh/torso in February of 2006. It started off the size of a dime, and I thought it was just a boil, so I didn't mess with it. It eventually after about a week got to the point where I couldn't walk, sit, or lay comfortably. I was in immense pain all of the time, and could not work. I finally went to a OB/GYN. He told me it was a Bartholyn's Cyst, that it's caused from a clogging in the tubes inside your walls that secrete liquid. They had to put a mini-cathetar (sp?) to get the puss/blood out. I was on antibiotics. When it finally popped, I screamed and cried for 4 hours straight in pain. It's not something to take lightly, but the chances of them being cancer are very slim to none. I woke up in the middle of the night last night & noticed another one on the other leg, and it's actually further down on my leg, away from my private areas. I think it's a different cyst; it has already quadrupled in size.

Once I had 10 cups in one day. If that is whats causing it I can always cut it down.
kellbell
It has been said that caffine can cause cysts. I would definitely cut back.
