i just don't know anymore

I have been with this guy for 2 1/2 yrs now. he is a traveling businessman, and I use to feel like we were soulmates, and I was very in love with him. Recently though, I have been wondering if we have the strength for the long term. I try to get him to open up to me, but he just wants to make sure that he says what I want to hear, or doesn't want to get trapped so he basically avoids the question as best he can and it always starts huge fights. I think I want things he can't(or is not willing to) give me, and I can feel myself slowly drawing inwards away from him. But I don't want to leave the situation without finding out for sure what he feels and wants. And I don't want to cause any more fights..I just don't know how to go about it.

2 1/2 yrs is a long time. he really should be open with you & completely honest with you at this point. you should talk to him & tell him that you really need someone who will be open with you & if he's still not opening up to you, you should consider dating other people for a little while to find out whats out there. You never know, your soulmate could come a long. Especially if you feel like you are drifting apart from him, you need to do something, or else you will keep drifiting apart from him. Try going out to dinner one night where you are in public (that could keep you both from arguing in front of other people, or maybe it doesn't matter who its in front of...) & tell him your feelings. stay calm & if he starts to argue, don't argue back, just let him know that what you need to talk about is serious. maybe then he will realize that this is serious & he needs to do something.
