Rizzle Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Ok to start with this isn't actually about me. I have a friend who since he was about eight years old (he's 15 now) has been having these twitches. They're really hard to describe, it's just like his whole upper body just jerks really suddenly, he doesn't know when they're going to happen and he can't control them. Anyway, recently they've been getting more frequent like once or twice every hour or so, I assumed this was down to stress or something because he's been getting a lot more work in the last month, and they're really getting him down because I think he's quite embarrassed about it. So I suggested he had a search on the internet to see if he could find anything about it but he says whenever he tries to look he gets really upset and stuff. So basically I was just wondering if anyone here knew what would be causing these twitches or how he could stop them or control them? Thanks in advance.
Jetta Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Has he checked into tourets (?sp) syndrome? I know that causes uncontrolled twitching.
Rizzle Posted February 14, 2007 Author Posted February 14, 2007 i don't think so.. i didn't realize tourettes included physical twitches like that aswell. he doesn't have any other symptoms i'd usually associate with tourettes but i don't really know much about it.. i'll see what i can find out about it. thank you
EvaGina Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 sounds like tourettes to me! But then it could also be epilepsy (sp?) just go the doctors!! simple!! I know its sounds stupid... but tell him not to be embarrassed about it... no one cares about htings like that

Rizzle Posted February 14, 2007 Author Posted February 14, 2007 oh okay, thanks for your help i've told him to go to the school nurse during lunchtime to see if she knows anything, so i'll try and persuade him. i know he should be embarrassed about it, hardly anyone notices it and if they do they don't say anything but i guess it's an insecurity of his..
EvaGina Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Yeah, we all have those weird insecurities no one else cares about. The school nurse wont be able to do anything except reffer him I suggest he really stamps his feet about it, as he will most likely need some kind of brain scan/reading to find out whats going on.
Newo Ikkin Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Similar to Eva, I would suggest he sees a doctor when he can. Don't worry him if you can help it but merely put it to him as a wise idea.
