sasha_faye Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 I've recently been dumped by my ex boyfriend a little over two months ago. I used to dream about him a lot. However, now I'm having dreams about my FIRST boyfriend from high school, who I dated for over two years. (We split over three years ago.) I rarely think about him in my waking life, but now I dream about him all the time instead of my most recent ex. Sometimes I dream the three of us are together, but other times it's just my old ex. Why is this happening??
Cyprian Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 Actually, I had a dream last night about one of my childhood girlfriends! I NEVER think about her, ever, and last night I had a dream about my ex (broke up a couple weeks ago) and all of a sudden this girl I knew when I was like 13 pops into my dream...it was a horrible dream by the way...very sad and weird. I wouldn't think too much of it. Just memories that our brain reinvents...
Straightj06 Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 This is common, i have dreams all the time. Perhaps cos i ony finished with my "first love" in october but i know of many adults who still think and dream about there past ex's sub-consciencely. Its just the way our minds work.
sasha_faye Posted February 9, 2007 Author Posted February 9, 2007 it's just so fascinating! i thought i would be dreaming of my RECENT ex more, not my old high school boyfriend! wow.

Any shift in a pattern is potential toward a change to a new one. A few nights ago I had my first dream (that I can recall) about a recently failed dating pursuit. She had invited me to a party at a house behind hers. She was there but we could not connect emotionally. At this place the only way for me to get back home was to continue onward, away from hence I came and circle back through some long and winding way. I even tried using a long ladder to circumvent this long route back, but the the ladder just could not reach the rooftop I needed to get over in order to go straight back. It is like she invited me, I came to her, but she was not there. And the only way to get back was to accept she wasn't there AND continue on down the sloping terrain so I could circle back around the long but safe way.
Parsley Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I also recently changed from having dreams about my ex, to both my ex and my first boyfriend. I'm good friends with the latter. I had just spent the day with him so that may be why. My reasoning is...during the day obviously part of your mind is preoccupied with your ex and thereforeeee 'love'. So why shouldn't there be a connection made between this one and previous ones? We know that we often dream about things that have happened during the day and dreams often seem to be sifting through our thoughts. It kinda makes sense to me that if I'm thinking about my ex I will think about my previous ex. Maybe that's just me...?

Yes, I think if that's what you first think about your dream then that is likely most accurate interpretation. But hey, it is a whole lot better to be dreaming about love in general than a lost lover, specifically, 'eh? Congratulations, I say !
