darkpumpkin
Every month I go nuts. I know it's hormones or pms whatever you like to call it. But I get over emotioal, paranoid, and just 'crazy' as my boyfriend puts it. My family is used to it by now, it's happened most my life. My best friend has also gotten used to it. She had a hard time at first but soon adapted that when I say something or act a certain way it's most likely pms. What I'm desperate for is help in controlling it. I know I've pushed guys over the edge with being 'crazy' and I love my boyfriend and don't want to push him away either. He told me that he loves me so much but sometimes I'm just so emotionally draining. Please any suggestions on ways that I can keep control of this. I need to keep control of this. Medical and non medical please Link to comment
Hope75
DP, Have you considered birth control pills? They can help control your levels of hormones during your cycle and decrease the severity of symptoms of PMS. Link to comment
darkpumpkin
I did try that. I thought it would have really helped but I found that it didn't calm down the emotional side. In fact I didn't really feel a change. I talked to my docotor and she just brushed me off and said "birthcontrol" Link to comment

I would pursue it more with your doctor, and if you are not comfortable talking to her, or feel that she will just brush you off, find another doctor- because she is not a very good one. darkpumpkin
yes. the other part to that which may not help is that my family has a blod clotting disorder. In which we can't take birthcontrol. I haven't been tested yet but I want to find other methods to controlling how I feel. If you have any suggestions or can think of anything it would be much appriciated. Link to comment
kellbell
Hey Darkpumpkin, Do you excersise during that time? Perhaps getting out and doing some physical activity can get those endorphins going and counteract those negative feelings. Link to comment

Ah- well this does make a difference, so birth control needs to be used cautiously in you if at all. Kellbell has a great point too- exercise gives you a focus and helps to burn energy and aggression in a positive way, and the hormones released do elevate your mood. Link to comment
Hope75
Also making sure you eat well (healthy and nutritious foods- staying away from excess salt, fat and caffeine), drinking plenty of water, and getting enough sleep are good ways to stabalize your moods during your cycle. Link to comment
darkpumpkin
I do exercise every day for at least 20mins. I eat very healthy with only the little slip up around this time. anything else? I do feel more focused and happier after exercise but that only lasts for so long before I go "crazy" again. I'm just desperate to get control. No one wants to be with someone who constanly cries when they see them or starts fights every month for a week. Link to comment
Hope75
I would still talk to your doctor about this. Perhaps there is something else they can give you to help with the mood swings. Be sure and mention your family history of blood clots though. Link to comment
