Weird how things turn out....

Recommended Posts

As you may have read, my gf of 3.5 years recently broke up with me. I was thinking though, 3.5 years ago I used this site for advice on kissing, because this girl was my first relationship and I had no idea what to do. It's just kind of a weird thought that I figured I'd share. Never thought back then that I would be using the same advice board to cure the broken heart that she gave me....

Oh, dear. I know that's a sad thought, if you think about it...but one really cool thing stands out to me: your first relationship lasted for over three years. Do you realize what an accomplishment that is for your age and for first relationships? Clearly, you are doing something really, really right friend, and I bet a lot of members would benefit from hearing on their threads your relationship pointers. I'm sorry this first one didn't last for you. But it's certainly established an admirable track record.

Haha, honestly, communication. I know it's what everyone says, but it is the real deal.

Unfortunately, I am beginning to feel like the last 6 months or so of my relationship, we were together because that's what we were used to. I was content with that while we were at college, but I guess she wasn't. So maybe only 3 years of truly truly loving each other.

Thanks! I think you're absolutely right about communication and in my current relationship, it's something I've worked harder at than ever before to be respectful and fair in how I communicate. Always, always respectful in how I talk to him, no matter how much we get used to each other. He's sensitive to anything he perceives as an attack, and it's been helpful for me to discipline my own tendencies to be a bit impatient and "authorative" in my opinions. (No one hold me admitting that over my head here, people!

Anyway, did you two end up going to different colleges? That can really cause distance both emotionally and physically. Plus, people tend to want to see "what's out there" when they're in college. I hate to say that, but it's a pretty predictable pattern.

Yep, we are almost 5 hours away. I am a year older than her and am in my second year of college. She is a freshman. I was fine last year, I mean it was no fun, but I stuck it out. I guess it was just too tough for her. Never once did I have a thought in my mind about experiencing other things. I loved her so much that it didn't even cross my mind. Guess that was all in vain.
