Pregnancy question....

Okay I'm probably just freaking out over nothing.

I'm 18 weeks and I started feeling my baby kick a couple weeks ago. I know some people don't feel anything at this point, so there is probably nothing to worry about.

But mine has been super active since I first felt it. Then on Tuesday it was moving around more than ever while I was at work. I would feel it about every 5 or 10 minutes...but now nothing. Nothing at all since then. I haven't had any other problems such as bleeding or spotting or cramping, but I'm just super concerned.

Is that normal? Maybe I just need to hear it from other experienced mothers/preggos...

Lay down for a little while. If after an hour of quiet resting you still havent felt anything.. You may try touching your belly button (this makes my 'fetus' move around alot) ... YOu may try taking a hot bath... that works for me too.

If you seriously have not been feeling movement you should ask your doctor who could reasure you that everything is okay.

Theres been times I havent felt the baby moving for days and then they will be very active. Maybe the baby is just not kicking hard enough, figure he/she is very tiny in there right now.

I was having trouble with my doctors and have my first real appointment next Monday. The last doctor I saw (last week) didn't believe that I felt the baby kick at all. I told her I did and she gave me that look like "aw that's cute, the first-time mother know-it-all" so I just shut up. So I'm not sure who to call right now, or maybe I should just wait until Monday?

Usually I would feel it if I layed down on my back for a little while but that didn't work last night, I ended up just falling asleep. I also was suggested to drink a glass of water and lay on my left side, and nothing happened then too.

I think I'm probably just paranoid. I can't imagine what I'm going to be like when this kid is actually out in the world, I'm going to flip out over everything.

I believe you have felt movement, especially 'smaller' people when they become pregnant can feel it faster.

I know you have had problems with doctors, but sounds like the newest one is better than the last. Wouldnt hurt to call and talk to them. Sometimes they have a nurse that answers questions and then gets the doctors opinion if needed.

NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT! I felt a little punch just now. Tiny, but no doubt about it. Maybe it will just sleep as much as it's mom does...one can only hope. Phew.

I will ask all about it when I go in. I think this doctor will be better. My last one kinda made me upset. I put the baby's father's hand on my belly and he felt it kick, there's absolutely no doubt about it. It makes me feel good though because I will always know my kid more than anyone else.

I found this though:

How often should I feel movements?

At first the kicks you notice will be few and far between. In fact, you may feel several movements one day and then none the next. Although your baby is moving and kicking regularly, many of his jerks and jolts aren't yet strong enough for you to feel. But later in the second trimester, those reassuring kicks will become stronger and more regular.

My baby always did a little dance whenever I would drink ice water. In fact, I was scheduled for an ultrasound and my doctor told me to drink really cold water before I came in so the baby would be moving. He sure did!

And sheesh... I hope you get another doctor... I'm overweight and I felt my baby moving at 16 weeks!

Thanks guys...I really appreciate it. I was so worried! I'm petrified of anything going wrong at all.

My doctor's appointment is only FOUR days away! Then I'll be able to see the little bugger that is giving me all this grief.

I know it will be better though...I'm not sure who my doctor is yet, but it's the main OBGYN office where all the top OB's in the area work most of the time. So no matter what I know I'll be taken care of. I'm sure they'll be hearing from me a lot though.

I'm going to try that thing with the ice water. The more I think about it I'm pretty sure I was drinking cold drinks when I'd feel the karate practices going on....

I don't understand why your last doc would be astonished to hear that you felt the baby move. 18-24 weeks appears to be the norm

but a couple of week prior to that would not be too odd. It's a "norm" not a rule for everyone. Plus why would you lie?

I'm glad you are switching docs.

My guess is that you'll feel the baby move more when it is trying to rotate and change directions. Then it might get comfy for a while and you'll feel less until the next rotation.

Either that or the baby was having a wild party in there that you didn't know about and it got tired after and decided to lay low afterwards.

I know, I was checking into that too. I would have that thing on me all the time. When I wake up, lunch breaks, movies....haha I can only imagine. It would totally be worth it though.

I absolutely loved hearing the baby's heartbeat. The last time my doctor found it, you could hear the baby moving away...the beat faded and got softer and softer and we had to poke around and try to find it again. It was so interesting.

Today it feels like there's a soccer match going on in there...it's such a relief. And for some reason I wake up getting kicked in my uncomfortably full bladder every morning. It's like it's a game or something.

That baby is trying to let you know that it is happy to be alive and can't wait to see you face to face. So funny! I am so happy that you are feeling movement. What an amazing attachment you have formed!!!

Wonder what would happen if you tapped your belly. Would the baby feel it and explore the sensation. i guess with bowell sounds and gurgling, the baby probably is already feeling alot of action in and around the belly, but it really is neat that you have been fully cognizant of it's movements this early! I am so happy for you!

BTR just wait, Im 25 weeks along and lately the baby wakes me up at night. I do not get through a full nights sleep without having to make a run for the bathroom. Good thing its not very far to go and lately shes been kicking me in the ribs, ouch!

Yes , I think so, they have done studies and said that babies respond to ouside noises, touch and even light! Wow so cool huh?

I think my full nights of sleep are pretty much over at this point. I have to run to the bathroom at least twice a night, then again first thing in the morning. I've gotten so good I can almost do it without even waking up. (Not the smartest idea I suppose...)

My sister in law just had her baby almost a month ago. My brother would complain because when they were sleeping, the baby would kick her so hard it would wake HIM up! He said he could feel it poking out and his wife would still be fast asleep...I can't imagine!

She would also gently poke her stomach when her other kids wanted to feel it move around, so I know that works!

I've seen some weird stuff on the market...there's these little speaker things you can buy that supposedly "teaches" you baby to distinguish different sounds. I don't know if they work but it's an interesting concept.

Wow, being able to get up without actually waking up is such a luxury. That sound gadget interests me but I read this weekend that babies don't have full capacity to hear sound until like ~ 20 weeks ????

My doc told me today I'm only 9 weeks and a two days pregnant, even though when calculated by the first day of my last menses, 10 weeks and two days. He says, when the Ultrasound is more than five days off (which it is for me), the new due date is calculated using my ultrasound measurement.

I think my baby is just small because I hardly ate at all for like three weeks, lost a tone of weight (7-10 pounds) and was under a bunch of stress. They couldn't hear the baby's heartbeat today, but they consoled me and told me that it's too early and they won't hear it until I'm 12 weeks. I wanted to grab that monitor out of the LPN's hand because I swear I thought I could do it better than she could. It's such a fine instrument and she wasn't honing in on the right sounds. She kept getting quizzical and saying, ahhh that's possibly it and I said, nope, that's mine as I had my hand on my neck checking my pulse. Oh well.

Well I'm 19 weeks and 1 day. They're saying my estimated due date is February 11th,2007, but today after my ultrasound they told me my measures indicated February 20th. That's odd because that's R's bday (my baby-daddy), but then again, I won't have to shop for any birthday presents!

She couldn't tell between yours and the baby's? That's crappy. But like they said, don't fret. Maybe they just couldn't come out and say that she's a bad doctor (lol). The first time I went to the doctor was at about 11-12weeks so no worries. The last time I listened to it you could hear the heartbeat for a second but then the baby would move away and then the doc would have to spend 5 more minutes seaching again. It'll happen.

But sweetie, you need to eat!! That baby needs every last pound, so go indulge yourself in a nice hearty dinner.

Ohhhh, trust me, BTR, I'm eating alot now! I went for three weeks with NO APPETITE and a real disgust for food. Now, I'm in a phase where I get acid stomach if I don't eat every two hours. I can't wait for this nausea thing to go away. I aws actually at the hospital this past weekend visiting a friend and I started dry heaving when i smelled urine on one of the floors, and couldn't stop.

Good, I'm glad to hear you're eating like a little piggy! The smell thing is so strange, isn't it? All the sudden I could smell what the people around the corner were eating for dinner. And the smell of hot wings made me so sick.

Now EVERYTHING smells good and I can't stop chowing down. I guess it's okay because ONCE again I'm supposed to double in size within the next few weeks. (My bellybutton is already non-existant, it's weird!) So my pattern is eat, sleep, eat, sleep, and so on. I'm fully enjoying it though because I actually have an excuse to do that.

OUt of curiosity, are you rubbing anything on your belly? Just wondering how to prevent stretch marks.

Yeah, I'm not there yet. I can't stand the smell of fried foods or casseroles, just give it to me bland. A PBJ actually sounds good right now, but I haven't had occasion to eat one.

My friend told me to try Tums for acid stomach and it works a little better than most things. Plus, the extra calcium is good!

Yeah I eat Tums like candy. My doctor encouraged me yesterday because she wants me to be getting enough calcium too, she said I can't have enough. My heartburn is so bad, it seems I get it from even drinking water or things like vanilla ice cream...who knew?

My doctor also said I need extra vitamins too (like Omega 3 fish oil pills and something else...I forgot!) so I gotta pick some up. Hopefully they're cheap!

I have so many different things for stretch marks. I can't stop myself...if it says cocoa butter, I gotta have it. I have this "tummy butter" that I put on at night because it actually has the consistency of butter and it will make me stick to my clothes, but I think it works the best. It's really thick and if that doesn't work, I don't know what will. It does absorb very well, it just takes a while. I put that on my belly, chest, thighs and butt because that's where I seem to be stretching the most.

But after the shower I have cocoa butter lotion I put on everywhere and I absolutely love it. It makes my skin so smooth and it stops the itch. It's really good stuff, I bought it at The Body Shop, which is in most malls. They have a whole line of cocoa butter stuff for preggo's.

Other than that, they have a whole aisle devoted to cocoa butter at Babies R Us and everything is pretty cheap.

I realllllly don't want stretch marks either...here's the links for what I use. No guarantee because I don't know what works for sure, but hopefully this stuff does!

The ones I use are Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Lotion and Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Tummy Butter.
