renaissancewoman101
In the last few weeks, I have developed a severe breakout of acne or something that, on my neck. I have some bumps and small pustules on my neck. I have no idea where that came from since my face hasnt suffered any significant breakouts lately. The bumps dont itch but I have a bad habit of picking on them and creating scars. I have never had acne problems on my NECK. Does anybody have any idea what may be causing them? Or any ideas how to get rid of them? I find them unsightly and my mother has already noticed them and given me some flak about it. I went to the mall to look for some OTC acne stuff. I usually use Aveda products on my face and they make acne products and I asked the people at the store. They dont think it is acne. I have no idea what it might be. I am wondering if they could be an allergic reaction from shellfish, although they dont itch? I have eaten some shellfish in the last few weeks. If someone could give me some ideas what they might be or how to get rid of them, I would really appreciate it. They look unsightly on my neck. ElektraHere
Did you change anything else about your diet? Also do you touch your face and neck alot? If so the dirt and oil from your hands causes breakouts. I swear that when I had acne problems years ago I used ProActiv Solution. It was a godsend. It cured my acne and i havent had a major breakout since. The only time I break out is if I touch my face with my hands too much. Also it could be the shell fish if you started to break out after you started eating it.
Jennster
I heard once from a friend that sometimes conditioner can cause breakouts on the neck and back...maybe be sure you're rinsing the skin back there really well after washing your hair?...also...I've been using Proactiv for my face for a few years and LOVE it...they do sell body wash stuff as well and that might be something worth looking into as the stuff really does work. ElektraHere
Yes conditioner can be the culprit too. I wash and conditon my hair first then wash with an antibacterial soap to wash all the residue of the conditioner off.
renaissancewoman101
EH, I do touch my neck a lot, that is just a habit of mines. I am not sure if the breakout is from the shellfish, because it isnt itching. The last time I had a bad breakout from shellfish, I got a nasty rash on my arms and had to go to the doctor to get antibiotics and a steroid cream. The more I think about this, I have a feeling I know how I got this problem on my neck. I think it is from the hay. For the last few years I have been feeding my piggies bluegrass hay from this lady who runs a hay business. The last time I ran out of hay, she was out of the bluegrass so I ordered 45 lbs of timothy hay. I just opened the box earlier last week and the timothy hay has been giving me allergies. I also dont wash my hands after handling the timothy since I never used to wash my hands after handling the bluegrass. I wonder if the timothy hay is causing me to have a rash/breakout on my neck????? I am donating the box of timothy hay to a local guinea pig rescue and reordering new bluegrass. renaissancewoman101
I dont think it could be conditioner though because I have been using the same conditioner for the last two years and I wash my neck throughly after washing my hair. ElektraHere
One piece of advice QUIT TOUCHING YOUR FACE AND NECK!! Or at least quit picking at it. That only makes it worse and casues scaring. You dont want that.
robowarrior
I would see a doctor for this, especially if you have reasons to believe its not acne i would have a specialist or dermatologist have a look at it, to see if it might be an allergic reaction or something else. NtrSpktv1
I came accross your posting because i've recently been dealing with the same issue...breakout on my neck. I've been trying to figure out what changed in my diet or environment that was creating it. I had tried the OTC acne products too (Acne Free and Neutrogena brand acne free type of product), but with no success. I still have not identified the cause, but over the last couple of days i've been using topical solution Clindamycin to manage the symptom, i.e., the breakout on the neck, with success. So far I haven't observed any side effects. Today it occurred to me that I started taking the Emerg-C vitamin about the same time after which i started to breakout on my neck. It's purely speculative at this point. I had googled "acne on my neck" to see if anyone else had noted allergy or related symptom after taking Emerg-C. That's when I came accross your posting. Yesterday I went to the dermatologist. I was told that it's very uncommon to have "acne" on your neck. If a guy appears to have it, it's usually related to shaving and folliculitis...so it isn't really acne. I've stopped taking the Emerg-C. I will wait to see if the symptom resolves and clears with the use of Clindamycin and by no longer ingesting Emerg-C. If that doesn't work, i'll be going to an internist to get after the cause, rather than just treating a symptom. Hopefully yours resolves by removing the hay from your environment. jenep
I know this is an old post, but I found this after searching the internet when I noticed the same thing after I started taking emergen C every day: small amounts of acne/bumbs on my neck. Odd. I did the same as the previous poster: stopped taking the emergen C and they went away. started taking again and voila: acne. i'm healthy and eat really well, so i'm very curious as to what it is in emergen C that is causing this. the flavor i use is tangerine. note: ascorbic acid is synthesized from corn (and not organic corn), so perhaps there's a GMO allergy factor since non organic corn is largely gmo. any thoughts or info? Georgiegirl65
I too have had this strange breakout on the back and side of my neck. They start out as bumps that hurt and eventually turn into a type of pimple. I have had them on and off for the last 8 years. I thought they were stress related and then I thought I was allergic to tomatoes. I am going to try proactive and see if this finally gets rid of these. Other products haven't helped much. I will keep you posted.
dali67
I, too did the google thing..because I am at a loss as to what is going on. For the last 2 1/2 weeks I have had bumps on my neck...like 3 in a row vertical from the bottom of my hairline down to the end of my neck (that now hurt). The only thing I can think of is that I used Brocato Cloud 9 shampoo maybe 3 or so days prior to this beginning. I do have sensitive skin (ughh); and have also been a bit under the weather; Not sure if any of this is related. Oh, I tried witch hazel thinking that would clear up the spots...it makes me itch but has dried them up a little. I also have a very bad habit of touching my neck. I know, I know...
