its a random thing and it just comes out of the blue and i dont know what could be causing it...

any suggestions welcome.

All right---Answer these Q's and I can probably narrow it down a little bit for you, but if you are in pain or the pain persists, then you need to visit your doc, OK?

1) When you feel the chest pain, do you also feel a burning/stabbing/stinging pain down either arm or between your shoulder blades?

2) When you feel the chest pain, do you feel a shortness of breath or like you can't take a deep breath?

3) When you feel the chest pain, do you get dizzy/nauseous/light-headed? Do you see spots in front of your eyes?

4) Does the pain feel like a pressure or a bruise? Tight pain or pain in the general area?

5) When it hurts, can you stand up straight? Raise your arms above your head? Twist from side to side?

From that maybe i can give you some insight as to whether it is a pulled/too tight diapraghm muscle or somethine that requires some first-person attention.

well i do feel like i have shortness of breath and sometimes it feels like i cant take a deep breath - it varies like i said previously. it feels really sharp but only in the chest area.

i dont feel any pain or anything down my arm but i havent tried raising it or anything when the pain comes.

i can stand and stuff but i have to sit down when i feel like im short of breath..sometimes when i breathe even slightly it hurts like mad so i hardly breathe til the pain passes..

its really weird. it just comes out of nowhere.

How long has it been since you started feeling this type pain.? You say it just out of the blue randomly begins to hurt. So is it happening everyday, or once a week, once a month? Have you been sick or had bronchitis recently?

I think it would be worth getting it checked out just to be sure of what is going on . It could be anything from minor to serious in nature.

the last time i had it was not long ago - it was last month. ive experienced it quite a lot recently in the past couple of months. the last one was when i couldnt breathe like i would normally and i ended up on my hands and knees. it lasted a minute but it felt a lot longer.

Ok.. It dosen't sound like typical heart trouble, but from the sounds of it, I would definatly go and see my doctor.

Pain in the chest accompanied by shortness of breath that is so acute that you end up on the floor is not good. Possibilities include panic attacks (have you been overly stressed or worried lately?), a pulled muscle/strained diaphgram (have you had a cough/accident/overexercised lately?) , a displaced rib (accident/growth spurt/bad sleepingposition), among others.

The way you describe it I am thinking more along the lines of panic attack, and not heart trouble, but still, all of that needs to be ruled out. If they are increasing in frequency, then whatever stimuli is causing the phenomenon is also increasing, so pay attention to your diet, lifestyle, stressors, etc over the next few until you get an appointment and see if there is any one trigger.

It could be mitral valve prolapse. I was diagnosed with it after suffering from the same symptoms but in addition I would pass out regularly. Do you feel dizzy? Do you have a lack of energy for no reason? I take medication daily for it and the pain has gone away.

ok i asked cause the pain is quite close to my heart thats why i got a bit worried. ive never had bronchitis or been in any sort of accident. i have never passed out either.

i have been stressed lately which could contribute to it but ive had it since as far as i can remember but it rarely happened then. it has got more frequent now.

If you are really worried, you should get checked out by a doctor. We cannot diagnose you, we are no specialists, and even if we were, we'd have to see you

But as far as my knowledge goes, this pain can typically occur if you breath in the wrong way. Try to look up some info about hyperventilation. Being stressed and tired can cause you to breath only in the upper parts of the lungs, the result is feeling dizzy, unable to breath and shooting pains in the chest. Breathing superficially for long times can also mess up your digestive system. If you are constipated, the inner organs may press up, also causing pains. My mom had this a lot, and me too.

You sound too young to have symptoms of degenerative heart disease (buildup in arteries) or MCI. Doesn't sound like acid reflux either. Also, with a pulled muscle or fractured rib, you would most likely have that pain every time you took a breath or moved your torso. I don't think you are getting this form hyperventilating either. The heart is on the left side of your chest. You say you have a sudden onset of pain on the left. That is right in the center of your heart. I think your problem is slightly more complicated. Maybe a mitral valve prolapse, as someone stated. You need to get bloodwork and an exam done from your doctor, and then either an X-ray, or a CT scan or MRI if it's more serious.

Do you smoke or drink in excess?

Do you have a lot of stress?

Internet Diagnosis is the worst kind of psuedo-diagnosis. All we can give you is comparisons to how we've felt in the past, and all google can give you is a type of cancer...

Go and see a doctor, it isn't that expensive, and it's better in the long run.

Better to know for sure now if somethings seriously wrong, than later when you're in a hospital bed. =)

Besides, there's a better chance that it's minor rather than major.

eeek! for your msg loud n clear mate
