her friend says she has a boyfriend

I met this girl several months ago through someone I know, and I really liked her at first. But, I never saw her again till couple weeks ago when I randomly ran into her on the street on the way to a bar to meet friends. After chatting a few minutes, I asked her if she wanted to come along to hang out with me and my friends, and she agreed. We had a pretty good time, having a few drinks. Before she left, I asked for her number so that "I can call when I go out again," and I got it. A week later, I called her and asked if she wanted to join me and my friends for this event at a bar. She initially said she would think about it because she had too much work at that point. But, when I had just arrived at the bar, she called and she would come out because she couldn't really concentrate and wasn't getting anything done. We all had a great time, and stayed around till after the bar closed. The next day, I asked her friend whether she was single, and I was told that she had a boyfriend 4-hr plane ride away.

There are some indication that tells me that she's not having a happy relationship or maybe broke up with her bf recently. She appeared very bored but at the same time stressed, and wanting to do stuff. She never mentioned about her boyfriend. I would think if her bf is important in her life, she would have mentioned at least once, either to me or to my gal friends. Is my observation correct?

If it is, what would be the best way to approach her? I was thinking of just trying to become friends and get to know her better first. Then, eventually I will find out about her most recent status. What do you guys think? I can't get anything done because I keep on thinking about this. She certainly seems like a dream girl....
