NR498E
Im 25 years old and about 4 months ago I started breaking out with acne like I hadnt since I was 15.At first I thought it was stress due to the fact my girlfriend left me and I was moving to a new town.Well four months later the problem still persists.Im just wondering if this has happened to anyone else at a later age, and if anyone can reccomend anything.Ive tried just about everything.Ive moved into a new apartment as well and Im wondering if maybe its the water.Any advice would be most appreciated. Thanks Link to comment
melrich
It could be stress but really I think the best course of action for you to take initially is to get a referral to a dermatologist and get some advice that is specific to your condition and circumstance. Link to comment
mgirl
I broke out in an adult-type acne when i was about 23, due to an increase in eating fatty and rich foods (i was dating a chef at the time, so i was eating a lot of brie cheese, yummy cakes, and oily foods in general), so maybe it's your diet? darkblue
Are you getting paid for that, monett?? I am lucky enough to have never suffered from acne. I do agree with the dermatologist. Link to comment
melee18
yeah i've had acne for years. what i find that helps is washing twice a day with a mild soap (not the kind for oily skin - something more along the lines of sensitive skin soap), putting on benzol peroxide cream (sp?) before bed and then a mositurizer on top of that. In the day I wear cream with sunscreen. I find that this routine keeps the acne at bay, but I also try to not touch my face or lean on my boyfriend's face too much. Even stuff like not changing your pillow case often enough, or wiping your face after eating greasy food can make you break out. Another one is holding your cell phone against your face. a great website for info is link removed good luck - hope something eventually helps - i know how frustrating acne can be! Link to comment
darkblue
Too right! I especially thought: > Was rather good. New job perspectives on the horizon? Link to comment
registered
Yeah melee18 is spot on with all the advice of keeping your skin clean... for me once benzol peroxide cream stopped working and so I just changed to a cleanser... just try lots of different products with different chemicals. The drugs your doctor will give you may be unecessary if you can control it with carefully keeping your skin clean. Use the products when they are needed - don't let your skin become oily...do something about it before the dirt causes pimples. (sensitive soap is good for removing oil off of the surface of the skin... I use it) Some products will make your acne worse and some will make your skin dry and painful, you just have to work out which ones work, if you choose to go down that route...I never thought I would stop pimples but I did after lots of trial and error. Also I have to stick to a strict routine, if I break it I break out again! The pharmaceutical companies must love me lol. Also sleep is the most important thing for me... but yeah, I'm not an adult (haha) and so that probably makes a difference I don't know. Link to comment
darkblue
I'm guessing Trident is gum.. Of course they would suggest sugar-free. Less work for them! Link to comment
NR498E
thanks for all your responses...i cant afford a dermotaligist right now, thus im asking you fine folks...im wondering if anyone out there just suddenly started getting acne again..my skin was always very clear..do you think it might just stop as quickly as it came on?And it seems like coincidence that it really gets bad when i move into a new pad..thanks agian guys Link to comment
registered
A lot of the cause of acne is environmental...stress and sleep are big factors...I don't know about water but it's not the first time I've heard someone consider it. I think it would be due to the changed circumstances in your life. I've had it just happen in stressful times when it was previously clear and then after that time passed it went away. Again, maybe not quite old enough for that to matter, but I'd say it is the same thing. Link to comment

alwaysreit
Its crazy, the same thing happened to me......never had acne or pimples my whole life....then all of a sudden around when i was 29 yrs old, i broke out everywhere. im now 34 yrs old and still have acne, now with blemishes all over. its insane. i thought it was just some crazy breakout because my father in law just died.........but i was wrong.. i dont know what the heck is going on either. proactive does not work for me. just sometimes the wash cleared it up a little...but then it came right back. i also heard taking lecithin supplements work, so i tried that, it cut down on some breakouts, but didnt take it away completely....not even close. i dont know what to do either. ill keep you posted if something works. CharLit
Andy, could it be the new town you have moved to? A friend of mine moved away from her home town to where I live, and within a few weeks the acne she'd had from her very early teens until she moved at 23 cleared up. Her home town was very polluted and smoggy, and she now thinks this was the cause of her acne. Link to comment
lizer
skin problems are a result of internal problems. you need a cleansing. stop eating junk food. eat fresh fruits and vegetables for awhile and a crapton of water. and see if it doesnt go away. that is if you care about it that much. topical creams and cleansers are just putting a bandaid on the real problem, which is inside. Not always.. don't assume please. Acne are caused by hormones in teegaers and for some people they never go away. I have no idea what causes the acne in the OP..but I do have suggestios. Did you try using some meds? Get benzoyl peroxide... carefully, it bleaches clothes like crazy!... and that's your "Proactive" as someone else suggested. If you want to match it closely, get a light scrub ad a toner. Don't waste your money though. At your age, I don't know if you had a sudden hormone spike or not... but if you didn't then the medication should work. Link to comment

What a load of CRAP. I hope you don't spew this garbage to people you know, since you are lying to them. gah! The OP posted this over a year and a half ago, so I'm sure they've probably found something that works for them by now. Anyway, proactiv IS benzoyl peroxide.... so that and salicylic acid won't really help you at all. You need to see a dermatologist. Get some minocin (anti-biotic) or get your butt on accutane!!!! Also try topicals such as retin-a. Anything you can buy at a grocery store shelf will NOT work. If you use anything with a "scrub" in it, that will aggravate your skin & make it WORSE. I can show you before/after shots of me that would make you do this from accutane, it was a life saver!!!! Link to comment
lexie_
been reading the threads here and ive got the same prob. andy_, it has been 2yrs, have you recovered from your acne? my acne started when i was 25, never had this prob when i was a teen, best complexion among my family members. i really can connect with andy_ as ive recently moved to a new location and the water isnt filtered at all, thats when my acne became more serious. right now, ive resolved to just the following: 1. keepin my face clean (normal oily cleanser) 2. takin natural herbs (2nd day of kordel's - skin clear vits) for blood detox and boost up the liver 3. consume more fruits + veggies (my new diet) 4. drink more pumpkin water (cook pumpkin with water, no additional ingredient such as salt+sugar etc are needed). got this new discovery from my aunt. will be consistent with this routine, prolly takes up months before i can see some changes. one lesson ive learned is not to keep changin your routines. ive done the following, some helped and some just make it worseee: 1. facial products: clinique->biotherm->dermatologist prescription->body shop->clinique (acne range)->thalgo (now i just stick to thalgo no matter what as the breakout still happens occasionally) 2. dermatolist: been given numerous types of antibiotics, even some to apply to the face (dalacin-t). at most times, it worked for a while and then my i got immune to it and the breakout became worst than before. got a fren whos been takin antibiotics for 5yrs and now shes seein the side effects (shaky hands, cant stop takin the AB for a day, acne resurfaced straight off - bigger and scarier) 3. beauty therapist: weekly facial with extraction. does help somehow, but just like the AB, once youve stopped, the prob just comes back on. most often extraction causes pits which i is one major reason i cant go on with it on top of the expensive fees. i just hope that my fact findings (which still hasnt got a remedy) here can help some ppl out there. hopefully with a lil bit of patience we can pass thru this phase. andy_...i will be movin to a new place by year end (2009), and ill be installin full feature water filter, lets see if that helps if i still havent recovered from my new diet by then. keep the post comin until someone gets over this ... stay sane. theekatalyst
I have had the most excellent clear skin throughout my entire life until the beginning of this year. I never had breakouts even in my teens. I am 22 now and its very bizarre. About 9 months ago I stopped drinking alcohol and have been a Vegan for about 6 months. I eat nothing processed, boxed or unnatural to no avail. I tried looking up some natural acne cures. I started applying Apple Cider Vinegar to my face with a cotton ball especially on the breakouts 3 times a day. I let it dry and after 10 mins I use a hot rag to steam my face and rinse. Im not saying this will work for everybody but it seems to be slowly clearing and healing up my breakouts. Goodluck to everyone! Link to comment
Mariaa
hey im 23 and I have had really bad acne for the last week. It started last year, but this last week has been worst then ever. samantha20
hmm, changing my contrsceptive pill helped me but you're a guy so.. see a dr I'd say and also drink loads of water. I know it sounds like a cliche but I swear it helps. Link to comment
