I was wondering if it was the same as the pill

 

cause I always forget to take my pill so i stoped taking it, I was taking it to regulate my periods...so if I took the shot would it be the same as the pill, liek will it regulate my periods?

If by the "birth control shot" you mean Depo Provera then no, it will not regulate your periods. In fact, the depo shot will eliminate your period while you're taking it or make it extremely light in the event it does occur. It is also more of a risk since depo is basically a poison, and you can only take it for 2 years at a time (it then takes almost 2 years to purge your system of it). Go back to taking the pill and if you can't remember to do that then check out the NuvaRing. There's a thread on it here too.

No, its not the same.

 

While there are some people who like Depo Provera (the shot) most I know hate it. It messes up your body a lot more from the stories I hear.

 

While it is supposed to "eliminate" periods, in most cases it seems to cause bleeding and spotting for weeks on end, it has long term affects on your fertility even after done (I know people whom were on it, and cannot get pregnant for years after), it messes up your libido, and has other side effects that cause the people I have known to try it to stop it. If you want to regulate periods, the Depo is not worth it in my opinion.

 

 

You could try the patch (you only have to apply once a week) or the Nuva Ring which offer hormonal treatments that will regulate your periods. Or develop a way to take your pill at same time - take it when you brush your teeth at night everyday, or set an alarm to remind you on your watch for example.

depo causes crazy emotional swings in some people too. i knew a girl that became uncontrollably depressed from it.

Ditto that for my ex-gf. She went from normal to extremely moody and very depressed on certain occasions. I would not recommend it.

I know that having your period regularly can decrease the chances of infections or cervical problems. I once dated a girl that took BC simply to regulate her period because of the health risks of not having it for her. I think that your period is there as a religious reminder (I won't get into that) as well as a purifier for your system and to "wash out" yourself.

Some birth control does alter it. The pill is there to regulate it, and it makes them lighter, shorter, sometimes even skipping them altogether.

 

Irregular periods are frequent among younger women.

 

There are "some" issues that an irregular period can cause - one you mentioned already, but also when you do try to get pregnant eventually it can really mess you up! Periods are healthy, they do "clean you out" and signal that your reproductive system is healthy and in check. Sometimes a lack of a period can also signal infection, STI, other diseases (like cysts, etc).

 

I think if its irregular, it might be best to talk to your doctor about whether its a concern or not.

Hey there,

 

I took the shot for a couple of years and HATED IT!!! It was cool at first, no periods, no PMS. But after awhile, I had mood swings, weight gian, and no sex-dirve, my poor boyfriend. It does not regulate your periods, it goes away, however, you can "spot" at anytime and for how long is anyone's guess. I highly recommend the patch, Ortho Evra, if you have a hard time remembering to take a pill. But all BC is different for everyone, however, I really loke the patch. No problems with it all at.

I think its just a lack of vitamins because of my diets I go on
