Prezkot
OK I need tips that best goes about telling an employer you want to quit after a mere 3 days... I got hired as a kennel assistant last week because I felt I was desperate for a job. For $7/hr it's dirty, hard work... and you feel sort of like a janitor for dogs. For the most part I was at least feeling like I could handle it because it was only 4-5 hours a day. However they wanted me to work a full 8-9 hour shift tomorrow (Sunday) and every Sunday, which is the only day I can really enjoy spending time with my family. So my dad convinced me to go ahead and decide to quit because it's not like I needed the job that badly, it was just extra cashflow, and that I'll find something better. Plus I've got some entrepernorial ideas that I guess I could get around to networking. So I only have a few hours to call before the (nicest) employer goes home, so what should I say? Thx for any help!! Link to comment

This is exactly what you should say. Link to comment
brando
i would talk to them about what was part of the original agrreement for your employment. Tell them you cannot work that many hours on Sundays, and it was not part of the agreement. If they dont want to stick with what was agreed on originally, tell them you feel you cannot work for them and leave it at that. Link to comment
Cadence308
It sounds like you hate the job and not just because your boss didn't stick to the original plan of what hours you would work when. If you want to be nice then give a 2 week notice. However, since you've only been there for 3 days, I would just call them and tell them that the job wasn't what you thought it was going to be and you won't be coming in any longer. Don't plan on using them for a job reference, though. Or you could go the passive-aggressive route and just plain don't show up for work tomorrow. They will probably call you and then you can tell them or have a family member say you aren't home. They will get the point. Ultimately, it's your life and you need to do what's best for you. The employer will do what's best for them and it sounds like they already are by not abiding to what you agreed upon when you were originally hired. Good luck! Link to comment
Prezkot
Thank you very much all of you for the advice. Yeah I tried to call the place this afternoon but the front office was closed and I didn't have the management contact info on me, so I assume I'll just wing it with Ballys' passive-aggressive route and wait until they call me. Yeah it's about half and half... the schedule isn't what it was supposed to be, and I just plain don't like the job. There are plenty of other jobs that don't require a whole lot of specialized skill that is more my style. Link to comment
annie24
I wouldn't just not show up. At least leave a message on the answering machine. Yeah, if you're not enjoying the job, why bother? Just be professional about how you quit the job. Good luck. Link to comment
ComputerGuy
If you are OK to handle just the shorter shifts, simply say you can't work weekends and if that isnt good enough, then make up your mind. The fact your parents even support you leaving suggests to me the job kinda blows anyway and you'd be much happier without it. It's up to you, but if you do leave, simply say "Sorry, it isnt what I expected and I don't think I'll be able to do this". Link to comment
