musicguy
So I went on vacation for the 4th of July and I was at a collge campus with my relatives by a lake. There was this punk girl (who I was attracted to) and she was sitting all by herself by the lake on a chair playing with her cell phone and I was walking by her wanting to talk to her, but I didn't..not once..didn't even say "Hi" to her. I'm now kicking myself in the butt for not doing anything. I missed an oppurtunity Why?
Caldus
Because you're scared of rejection?
easyguy
Intuitively, you were afraid of what she was going to think of you if you approached her. That and/or you lost that thing called con-fi-dence.
ShySoul
Because its not easy to go up to a complete stranger and start a conversation, especially if you happen to find her attractive. It's not even so much fear of rejection, its the thought of why would she want a stranger saying hi and starting a conversation.
smallworld
Lost opportunities are wonderful. Have enough of them and you'll eventually realize that not taking chances is a lot worse than taking them. Start small. Next time you see someone (anyone! Babies, senior citizens, etc.) just try making eye contact and smiling warmly. Beam these folks happy, loving thoughts and more often than not you'll find your gift of a smile reciprocated. When it becomes second nature you can throw in a friendly greeting as you pass and then ultimately try finding common ground and starting fun, light conversations. For instance if they're walking a dog, you can ask about that. It's not easy talking to strangers, but with practice when the right opportunity comes along, you'll be more than ready for it.
