Some people do not want to harm thier relationship with thier parents so they simply do what most people do.

 

It's that kind of thinking or the attitude that its easier to give in and appease such close mindedness then to fight it that makes things like interracial dating less common then it really should be.

 

Change doesn't happen overnight. There is still stereotyping and racism. There will probably always be fools who fear what is different, even if its different in some superficial manner such as skin. But instead of focusing on how far we still have to go, why not focus on how far we have come? Things aren't perfect, there is still much work to be done. But things are better then they once were.

DN makes a good point. Being 'purely English' (or purely most other nationalities) is a contradiction in terms.

 

It's quite funny (but not really) that since this interesting topic started, I've had interracial dating problems!

 

I'm half indian, half English and my girlfriend is half mexican and half english... Her mum (mexican) was brought up being taught that to date a foreigner was wrong and that they were all up to no good (hehe ). This is inspite of the fact that her mum married a foreigner...!!

 

Fortunately for me, my girlfriend is pretty against her mum's attitude. She only told me last week that her parents would have a MASSIVE problem with me and her being together. I kinda freaked out for a few days lol because I never had anything like that happen to me before.

 

So anyway we decided that we will have to keep it a secret from her mum, because if we dont she will force my girlfriend to break up with me. It's pretty bad because my girlfriend has to lie about where she's going all the time and can't talk about personal stuff with her mum (which is what she does alot). Also if her mum sees me and her out and about, she'll probably bust a cap in my foreign a$$ lol.

 

I've never been in a forbidden relationship, I guess it's kinda cool in a hollywood way hehe.

Correct me if i am wrong but they were all white. Even today people dont have problem with the Races as much as with the color of a persons skin. I am sure most people will be fine as long as the interracial relationship is between people of same color. To this date, some people (mostly white) view Black, brown and yellow skinned people as racially inferior to White skinned people ( however stupid it may seem ! ).

They were 'white' but were at least as far apart racially when they first interacted. Generations of warfare, attempted genocide, slavery, distrust, hatred and racism were the result. But eventually those on the island of Great Britain became three countries and then one nation. It would be hard to find a Welshman who identified himself more as a Celt than a Welshman, or a Scot who thought of himself as a Pict, or an Englishman who thought of himself as a Saxon or Norman - and yet at one time they would have held each other in at least as much contempt and hatred as any racist today, whether their skins were black or white.

And what makes it really stupid is that you can't even tell race from skin color. I look white cause I take after my moms side in that area. Yet my dad's side has black. I'm both, judging be based on skin color won't tell you the whole story.

And what is even more stupid is that those people who look upon others as racially inferior are usually swimming in the shallow end of the gene pool as far as intelligence is concerned.

Well, true.... but you can't really use that as an argument against them.

 

Better argument is to check on their family history. Want to bet they aren't as pure as they claim? That they are just as mixed?

The sooner everyone is mixed race (i.e. one race) the better the world will be for it - although I suppose people will find something else to fight about.

Good Point! ... I think the bottom line is, some people will always find reasons to hate fellow human beings. Race and color of skin will give way to some other stupid reasons.

Yes, there will always be ignorance and prejudice. There will always be people hating each other for stupid reasons, really because of their own fears and their self hatred. But that doesn't matter. What is important is that those who get what is right speaks out, tries to make the world the better place it can and should be. Even if its something as simple as dating someone you like who is a different race. We may not be able to eliminate ignorance, but we can fight it one step at a time and hope that message spreads until the problems become a sidenote and not the major issue it is now.

I'll admit, I've been attracted to a girl of a different race. But i tend not to think of it as race. I don't see black, white, and so on. I see people.

It makes me so upset when I see people freak out over races coming closer together. I don't know any evidence that points towards interacial realtionships. If anything they're RIGHT. I have seen so many beautiful people come from a mixing of ethics. I would like to know who defined skin color as a "race" because I would like to build a time machine and go back give them a piece of my mind! I wish I didn't have to share the world with those kind of people but, hey, what can I do?
