Angel56656 Posted November 28 Posted November 28 Next Year I’ll move to the us, and go to Santa Monica college, a community college, I’ve already have a job in digital marketing that pays good and covers all my expenses. i am 18 and I am a pretty extroverted person, when I’ll move could I be able to make friends and go to parties? also my job is full time(30 to 40 hours a week) but has a tremendously flexible schedule, can I be able to do both? Both going to community college( I want to double major in finance and teather) but studying isn’t a problem for me…
Seraphim Posted November 28 Posted November 28 You said you hated shallow people . California is the epitome of thousands upon thousands of shallow people . Why in all of the US would you go there ? 1 1

Why in all of the US would you go there ? Hey! California has some nice people as well. Don't consider myself shallow. Shallow people are everywhere. So are good people. Lived here my whole life and have known far more good people then bad ones. Just choose to associate yourself with the good and not the shallow. California is also one of the most diverse states, leads the nation in technology, has some of the best universities, takes early action on issues such as gun safety, climate, and women's rights, and by itself would be one of the top economies in the world. 19 minutes ago, Angel56656 said: Next Year I’ll move to the us, and go to Santa Monica college, a community college, I’ve already have a job in digital marketing that pays good and covers all my expenses. i am 18 and I am a pretty extroverted person, when I’ll move could I be able to make friends and go to parties? also my job is full time(30 to 40 hours a week) but has a tremendously flexible schedule, can I be able to do both? But there should be plenty of things for you to do and ways to meet people. Santa Monica has a lot of nightlife and is a beautiful beach area. You should be able to find something depending on your interests. California in general is expensive. All the benefits come with a cost. So be careful about your budget. Housing takes up far more of the income then it should. If you can handle the workload is really up to you. Don't overload yourself, especially at first. If you need to take longer to finish the classes and focus on the job, it's fine. Paying the bills come first. And I'd recommend roommates to split the cost and help with making friends. Good luck and welcome to Socal! 1

I know, but I want to pursue a career in entertaintent and even tho I do hate shallow people, it’s what I want to do and I am willing to make sacrifices(and other than that I could always have friends every step of the way). unlike in high school where I am not going forward towards my future, just waiting around, so the presence of shallow people it’s not really there for something that’s all

Great thanks, keep in mind that I also have a American accent and I am pretty fluent with the language, some say I am even better at English than my own language sooo. i also want to have a lot of fun now that I am young(grew up with my grand parents who always told me to live fully my youth before it vanished so….) would you think I’ll be able to do even while going to college and having a job? my biggest fear is that I wouldn’t be able to carry on
ShySoul Posted November 28 Posted November 28 4 minutes ago, Angel56656 said: would you think I’ll be able to do even while going to college and having a job? my biggest fear is that I wouldn’t be able to carry on I'm an introvert with a low threshold for social interactions and living it up. So for me it would be a no. For an extrovert like you, it's possible. I'd prioitize and make a plan once I'm there. You never know what life will be like until it actually happens. Job first, classes as much as you can. But set aside time for social stuff. There's always something going on, so you won't have a problem finding things I'm sure. Just have to balance it all and know what your limits are for each area. 1
Cherylyn Posted November 29 Posted November 29 I worked full time while enrolled in college full time. I didn't have a social life because I was so busy, hardly ever home even though I lived with my mother and siblings. Whenever I was home, I was exhausted and needed to catch up on sleep! 😴 💤 If you want to make friends and party hearty, you can do it as long as your grades don't suffer and as long as you don't burnout in the process as there are only so many hours in a day or week. I had the time of my life after graduation and a full time career, met my husband along the way, settled down in the suburbs, we have two sons, etc. I hope you can do it all and you can as long as you set your priorities straight. Be careful whom you meet. There are a lot of shady characters out there. 😧
catfeeder Posted November 29 Posted November 29 Hello, and early welcome to the US. Have you applied for a student or work visa, and were either of these documents approved?

Be aware that entertainment has it's fair share of nonsense and bad people. From everything I've heard it's not an easy task. But there are also cool and creative people who are passionate about what they are doing. Like any career, it takes a lot of hard work, patience, and luck to land in a spot where you can feel productive and valued with people you respect. If it's your dream, pursue it. Hope you can make that dream come true.
