Popular Post rainbowsandroses
Hey guys, after my most recent dating debacle I swore off dating for awhile BUT... an ad popped up on my phone today inviting me to join a dating site for "30+ intelligent singles with above-average education who are serious about finding a relationship." I browsed through the men in my age range and some of them were quite nice looking! So on a whim I joined and within 30 minutes literally I am chatting with this British guy who now lives in my neck of the woods.... and having a blast! We made a date to meet tonight for spaghetti bolognese at a local Italian pub. He keeps calling me "love"! Lol. Not "my love" just "love." Which is pretty standard for Brits I think, can anyone from England confirm this? Gotta admit I do find it charming. But one never knows. Meeting him in a couple of hours! Yikes! 😅

ShySoul
What surprises me: That a popup for a dating site might actually be something good. What doesn't surprise me: That someone took notice of you instantly and struck as soon as possible. Be smart, be safe, but most of all have fun... love. 😉

BeaTlesFan77
I'm not from the UK, but believe that the "love" at the end of sentences is common there. Have a great time Rainbow and I hope things go well!

I don't want to say too much just yet TeeDee but we had a crazy good time but that may be in part because I was in a super good mood! So was he and our energies sort of bounced off each other if you know what I mean. But I gotta let this marinate a bit; like I said I joined the site on a total whim and wasn't looking to date for awhile. I'll share more if this progresses, thanks everyone for the good wishes!

Agreed, it would be nice if all being single and dating was like this. Having fun and enjoying each other’s company. Not playing head games.

The economy would take a hit. 😲 😉 Agreed, just have fun with it. See what happens. Don't make everything a massive conflict or drama. Pulling for you Rainbows. You deserve some fun.

Which is pretty standard for Brits I think, can anyone from England confirm this? Gotta admit I do find it charming. But one never knows. Meeting him in a couple of hours! Yikes! 😅 Hi Rainbows! I am British! Have lived in England all my life! ”Love” is a casual working class, normally Northern term of endearment and can be used for mothers and family members too; also some shop assistants will call a customer “love” if the customer is younger than them and female! Men and women will do this to the same and opposite sex! To be specific, it is usually a Yorkshire term! You will be hard pushed to find this term of endearment found in the South of England or even the midlands! If you’re curious, southerners who are white British tend to use “darling”. People further North still sometimes use the endearment term “pet” - this is linked to people from Newcastle, Sunderland and sometimes the borders of Scotland. British people rarely call their significant others “hunny” or “sweetie” or “babe”, but would be much more likely to use the term “sweetheart” “my dear” “dearest” “chick” or “lovvie”! To add confusion to the mix, people from Sunderland for example wouldn’t say “hunny” - they say “hinny”! As you know having visited England, the terminology is vast and changes even from town to town which can be only 10 minutes apart. Terms of endearment I use towards my husband are: “Darling” “love” and then private pet names. I will call younger children “sweetheart” and my own children, aside from family pet names and in jokes, I call them “chick” “chiddlers” (anther term for children - collective) my boy “son” and my two girls “girlie” or collectively “girls”! x 6
poorlittlefish
Calling someone "love" is common, but not something I'd tend to hear from people with above-average levels of education; it's more a working class thing. I'm from London and now live in Wales, but people say it everywhere. In Wales they also say "lovely" (or "butt" for a man).

TeeDee
Fabulous! Glad you had a good time. That was all I was after; I wasn't pushing for details. You are right to let it marinate & see where it goes.

Nothing wrong with that but it’s just how it is. x
