Finances and Lying

I have been desperate so this is why I didn’t even realize.  I’ve been using a Home equity line of Credit for years to pay bills.  At times we had so little with my not working one of those years and him not working a year and then Covid.

problem is my husband doesn’t know and it’s getting high

what do I do ? How do I handle this?

What you do is tell your husband ASAP and do not justify what you chose to be dishonest about.  Simply apologize then tell him what solutions you propose to the financial issues.

The sooner you tell him, the more of a chance you have to fix this before its too late. 

I agree with Batya. Be honest, and have solutions ready. Be prepared to do whatever it takes.

Get appropriate tax and financial advice. You're legally married? If so do you file joint taxes? Check your credit scores.

Is there an addiction or compulsion? Such as shopping, gambling, drug use, etc.?

You need to start selling things and decluttering your home. Start right now selling stuff on line at a garage sale, etc.

You also need to cut way back on excess spending.

Review your monthly bills and budget. You realize at this rate, you'll be homeless because of excess spending and poor financial management, right?

 You realize your home will soon be worth nothing or less than nothing when your mortgage is more than it's value, right?

You could end up losing your home.

Get that second job, start selling whatever you used the money to buy or whatever you don't need, and tighten your belt.  

And be honest.  I presume you love your husband so you cannot lie to him or conceal things from him.
