How do I proceed? Warning may trigger!

Recommended Posts

So I found out from the sexual assault I contracted an STD. The detective told me before I found out when I asked him by law I don’t have to tell the assailant.

I feel I should have the detective let him know in case he does this again and gives that person the STD he gave me!

Chances are he may already know he has an STD but there are no symptoms for males.

how should I proceed? Should I tell the detective the guy who raped me gave me an STD so the rapist is aware?

or does it not matter?

Sorry this is happening. Talk to the rape counselor. Generally, all communicable diseases have to be reported to the CDC.

In your case the police, rape counselor and their liaison with the ER/hospital should handle it. You shouldn't worry about this except taking care of you.

You do NOT communicate with the rapist at all.  Never again.  This person is a criminal.  If he'd held you up by gunpoint you wouldn't be communicating with him.  Just because you knew him personally prior to the crime doesn't mean you should keep communicating with him for any reason.

The rape counselor can handle any communication.

I'm sorry this happened.  I hope you can be treated and get physically healthy and get whatever assistance you need to deal with the after effects of what that criminal did to you.

Hi @limichelle

I hope you are well and that you are being able to work through the trauma (I can relate to your experience though I have not contracted an STD - I thankfully have wonderful, trustworthy people in my life who were able to protect and keep me safe under similar circumstances).

You've taken the right steps in contacting the relevant agencies and you now have to leave it to justice to take its course 🙂. Lots of virtual hugs coming your way!

Have you talked to close friends and family about your situation? It's good to offload to someone who cares and will be able to support you more concretely. Anonymous forums like these are fine to vent, but it's also important to build and maintain a strong support system around you so when things like these happen, you know you are not alone 🙂.

I hope this helps! Please keep us updated, and be well.
