Male neighbor knocks on my door

I'm in my mid 50's.  I'm open to dating again, it's been awhile.  Revisiting how I felt talking to neighbor at my door, it wasn't positive.  Complainers bring me down.

Not interested in going to coffee.  Saying hi in passing is good enough.  I wasn't overly friendly at the door with him.  I doubt he will come back.

I look a lot younger than my age and have had 2 other older men talk to me in the laundry room.  One kept looking at my body (not a good sign).  The other was telling about the rooster he used to play with as a child.  Friendly, platonic chat that was ok with me.

I'm aware (due to my people pleasing personality) that I must work on that.  It all starts (I think) with being aware of the dynamic between two people.

Hopefully I'm on the right track 😉

I have a history of getting involved with men who are not good for me.  I'm too nice, I'm told.

And that, OP, is the aspect you need to address. And it has nothing to with being too "nice".   You need to sharpen up our radar, become both aware and self-aware, and learn to distinguish between what will be good for you and what will not.

You sound like my friend. She's newly separated in her late 50's, and bought a condo where it's mostly elderly /retired people. There's an older gentleman she runs into while she goes out for a smoke, they chat lightly until his wife comes roaring out accusing him of cheating ...omg! She's the new young hottie in the building I guess...word got out lol.

I learned a thing or two here.  This one's not for me, whether he was looking for a date or not.  The old me would have plastered on my smiling face.  Stood at my door and listened to his crap until he collapsed from standing.
