moneymkt
Woman love the word CREEPY. So what do you think of this? This new girl who started the job 3 weeks ago has not said much to anyone since she started the job and I started talking to her to make her feel comfortable. So today I told don't hesitate to ask any questions if she runs into issues. Once I said that she 1. Calls me on my desk phone and wanted me to help her with a computer issue "I thought she was going to ask me face to face lol 2. Then after work I decided to walk 8 blocks to the subway and had no idea she was behind me the entire time. So once I arrive at the subway someone taps me on my right shoulder and I turned around and it was her smiling. Then once we get on the subway she was asking what part of the city I live in??? boltnrun
Are you angry about something? Where does this "women love the word CREEPY" come from? Anyway, I think she may be anxious to make friends at work. You were nice to her, so she sees a potential friend. Link to comment

I could see a guy who just started a job being labeled as creepy if he called one of the ladies at their desk asking for help, walked behind her for 8 blocks and then tapped her on the shoulder and asked where she lives once they got on the train. Especially if he was only there 2 weeks. Link to comment
boltnrun
I agree that would make me nervous. However, it would make me nervous regardless of whether it was a man or a woman who did that. It would have seemed less strange if she'd called out to you and suggested you two walk together. So, do you find her behavior "creepy"? Link to comment

My view is that she obviously also uses the subway and that's why she walked the same way. Maybe she was too shy to walk with you because she's new there and didn't want you to think she was weird (which it seems you do anyway, lol). ..... Then, seeing as you were both at the same subway, it's not an unusual question to ask where you live. Just some friendly conversation (imo). Link to comment

What's so crazy about it I was walking extra slow on purpose due to the heat so I am just wondering how she just appeared out of nowhere. lol Link to comment
boltnrun
I don't throw the word "creepy " around (and I'm a woman), but I would not like it if someone wanted to know where I live. I would say only the general area (for example "the north side"), but unless I know you very well you don't get my cross streets and certainly not my address. And that goes for males AND females. Looks like a shy girl, knows this guy from the office, saw him and started some light conversation. Not too weird (imo). Link to comment

I would never give my full address either. Like you say, a vague "the north side" would be sufficient. Link to comment

But he does have a point regarding if he was a woman and a man did this, we might give different advice. I still wouldn't use the word "creepy" but I'd be a bit nervous. Link to comment

Capricorn3
What about the tap on my shoulder inside the subway for me to turn around? lol Um...what about it? Getting your attention, Hey, Hi, how about that, we're at the same subway ..etc etc. Looks like you're desperately looking for a lot more meaning into something ordinary. I don't get it. melancholy123
I think you are reading too much into this. She may be quite shy. Perhaps on the walk to the subway she didnt realize it was you ahead of her, or maybe she wasn't really sure it was you. Big deal. Be polite to her, that's all you really need to do. So what if she asked what general area of the city you live in. It's just small talk. Link to comment

You could be right but what made it so confusing was how slow I was walking. lol Maybe she was on the other side of the street and I didn't notice. Link to comment
itsallgrand
It's awkward finding yourself going in the same direction for quite a while on foot behind someone you only barely know. It's awkward no matter what - if you lag behind, they might turn and think you are following them. If you shout out or overtake them, you might startle them. And if you cross the street to go in the same direction, they might think you are ignoring them. She was probably trying to be polite/ friendly by tapping your shoulder and acknowledging you. mustlovedogs
She took you up on your offer for help and she's creepy? I genuinely don't get that. Some people use office phones different. I know people who call, people who walk to the office, people who IM... whatever. I literally had two coworkers who would call each other with questions and they shared a wall! Link to comment
Hollyj
What's the big deal. I don't see this as being creepy. At all. She asked about the area, as you are taking the same train. If I had been in her position, I would have done the same - It's called a conversation starter. Link to comment

I think what shocked me is her calling me on the desk phone and she just started the job 2 weeks ago. I was expecting her to wait for me to walk past her cubicle to ask me any questions. Plus I didn't even know she knew my extension since she is so new. Lol Link to comment
Hollyj
Didn't you reach out to her and offer help? I'm sorry, but I think you are making something out of nothing. Too many dramatics! Link to comment

Finding out an extension would be the easiest way to find a coworker that offered to lend a helping hand. I really don't see the creepy in here. Link to comment
boltnrun
Is the point of this thread to find out if this woman acted "creepy", or to prove some point about being called "creepy" when you felt it was uncalled for? Or to prove that women can act "creepy"? Link to comment
