Conflicting political views in our relationship

While i dont agree with the public display of racist comments, maybe her and her brother are really tired with whats happening in the UK. Do you watch the news to see whats happening in your country? I live in Canada and can see that its become pretty bad with the influx of high concentrations of muslims, mosquese coming up left and eight, people praying on the steeets, no go zones and the anti-UK attitude many of those radicals have. Maybe she is just venting because she sees all this crap, and realizes that you are too liberal or have a snowflake sort of outlook as a Londoner, and gets more vocal. Sorry to be harsh with you my good fellow.

Yes, this is a real article in a US paper: My 22-year marriage didn’t survive Trump’s election

I wonder how native Canadians feel when we want to put pipelines through their land.

Sounds pretty racist to me. People can live where they like .

And unless you're native Canadian you came from somewhere else too. My mom's family has been in Canada for 400 years this year but they were still from somewhere else originally.

It's not a question of whether one view is right or wrong, but one of incompatibility between the two.

I think we can safely assume that the OP, his girlfriend and her brother see the same environment and are aware of the same news media. Where they differ is in the conclusions and attitudes they arrive at as a result.

Thank you for the questions.

I have tried on many occasions to voice my own opinions and concerns over hers. I've made it clear to her that I don't wish to change her opinions and that I encourage respecting each other's views, however, I try to open her mind a little more so she can make more informed opinions. That hasn't worked. I have gone as far as accusing her of being a racist and challenging things she says but she denies that her comments make her a racist. Basically, I've got to a point where I don't think she will change for me, so I fear it's a case of making a serious decision or threat atleast.

I think I have lost respect for her but only with regarding this. She is still a very grounded, mature and thoughtful person, it's just that she allows information to make her angry and when this happens, she seems to think her comments are justified

You are fueling this fire with debates. Cut your losses if you have contempt for her. Let her go be happy with people similar to her.

You're right. You can't fix change or "enlighten" anyone. You'll both just resent that.
