How to Ask Ex to Meet Up?

Recommended Posts

I broke up with my ex about a month ago. We've known each other for many years and I thought we were going to be in each other's lives forever. I recently moved out of state for work, but I was trying to get another job so that I could move back and we could be together again. Long story short, he lied about his situation and I found out about it.

I'm going to be visiting "home" soon and I'd like to see him in person. I really just want to say goodbye face-to-face because he was part of my life for so long. How do I ask him to meet up with me? I don't want it to sound like I'm angry or make him think that we have a chance of getting back together, but I don't want to sound cold or too business-like, either.

Sorry to hear about your situation, knowing someone for a while is tough. Well first you must ask yourself- is meeting up completely necessary? Is it going to help in the long-run with his emotions? Yours?

It seems like your pretty dead-set on it. With that said, I'd text him exactly why you want to meet. If you get any vibe that he wants more that just respectful 'goodbyes', don't bother meeting up. It sounds like you may still have feelings, keep in mind you can always meet up later down the line. Good luck. You seem to have a good grasp on things. Stay strong!

Sorry to hear this? How long were you dating? What caused you to breakup, was it the lie? What was he lying about?

Reflect on the point of your meeting. The breakup is closure so what is the reason for a face-to-face confrontation?

Thanks, everyone. After thinking about it some more, I don't think I want to see him. Maybe at some point in the future, but it's too soon right now. Although I want to have the real goodbye that I deserve, I think that I may get too overwhelmed with emotions.

I think that I can speak for others here in saying that most of us agree with your decision.

You should think about what kind of progress that you've made since he's been gone. Its only been a month, but you're probably starting to analyze what went wrong as well as some of the things that you don't miss about him. Especially the lying.....
