Dottieflanogon
I have only been driving for few years and I have already received 3 parking tickets. The first time I got a ticket was 2 weeks after I got my car. My complex has limited parking spots so none were available at that time. The superintendent office told that I can go on waiting list, a parking spot will be available when someone else moves out .For the time being I would park on visitors parking or on the street right beside apartment building. There are no signs that say you cant park there , I would see many people stay over and park their cars on the same spots. In my mind I thought it was okay to park there all day. Then one time as I was heading to my car, a gentleman that lives in my complex told me that I had gotten ticket. I thought he was jocking but sure enough there was $35 ticket on my windshield. I soon learned that you can only park there for 3 hours maximum and you have to move your car around. The second time was when me and my friend went to a buffet down town.We purchased a one hour parking ticket. We arrived at the restaurant approximately 4:30 pm but the discovered that the buffet was going to be opened at 5:00 pm, which spared us 30 minutes to waste on our ticket. We ended up being 20 minutes late. We arrived at the parking lot as the officer writing it.He handed me the ticket .I said to him, 'but we're only 20 minutes late ? he told me it was my problem and to fight it, or pay the $55. My third ticket was today at work. Unfortunately, the parking spots always fills up quickly at my work because it's first come first served. You have to arrive early to get a parking spot. However today I was running late so by the time I got there ,none of the parking spots were available. I had no choice but to park at the next building beside my work. They're both owned by the same company but the management of the building don't like us parking there because it takes up spaces for their employees . Today, I received another parking ticket for parking on private property. The thing is ,most of my colleagues park there when the spots are full. I even spoke to some of them to find out if they have also received tickets. but they told me that they haven't The most they received was warnings not to park there. As matter of fact some still park there from time to time I know parking tickets don't affect your driving record or insurance rate but walking up to your only to find a ticket on your windshield feels bad lol. I know sometimes we take chances and we only have ourselves to blame at the end. I never park in handicapped spots, in front of fire hydrants, No Parking or other people's reserved parking spots. I try to mindful were I park but somehow I always screw up and end up getting them. On the other hand, I haven't received a speeding ticket. I drive the speed limit and I don't go more than 5-10mph. How many parking tickets have you gotten?
Seraphim
Zero. You might not be able to renew your plate sticker until you pay the fines.

HeartGoesOn
None. Are you sure numerous parking tickets don't go against your insurance? Other than that, is public transportation available in your area?
Capricorn3
None. I guess it varies from state to state if it goes against your insurance/driving record etc. Just make sure to pay your fines as not paying could backfire on you badly eventually. Dottieflanogon
I always pay them off .Its my understanding that you have 15 days to pay for them .if it goes past due date it goes up to $75 and keeps pilling up, you would be issued against a licence plate and additional fees and you wont be able to renew your license. I'm not sure if it's different everywhere but that's how it works were I live

It varies from States to states/countries to countries Just like many things regarding the Law. Around here no driving record for a parking ticket but speeding and DUI/DWI are pretty harsh and if repeated can even get you weeks in the cooler. Also the red light cameras. I abhor those things, they are operated by Private companies who take most of the revenues. Crooked as a dogs leg.
j.man
I've only gotten one parking ticket in my life, and I knew full well I was taking a risk before I got it. Other times, I rolled the dice and won. I used to work at a university in a town that had very rigid time limits on street parking close to the school. I'd try to get to the limit-free parking, but sometimes I'd run late and park in the limited time parking zones. It's just the price you pay for not being prepared in the morning and getting out there ahead of time. I've gotten 4 speeding tickets in my 12 years of driving, all of them on the highway (I always go the speed limit or under in residential areas). As some have mentioned already, you can have issues getting your registration renewed if you don't pay your parking tickets. However, I don't know of a single state in which insurance rates can increased based on tickets that aren't moving violations.
melancholy123
I've had 1 ticket in over 35 yrs driving. I took a chance and got caught. That was when I lived in Toronto and parking could be an issue. It's not a problem in the country/boonies where I live now. Be sure to read your ticket to be sure as to how many days you have to pay it. Dont assume anything.
Snny
Only one counted. I parked in a dark street and couldn't see the No Parking sign. Still was my fault though. OP, anytime you park at a meter it is your responsibility to monitor your time. It really isn't that hard. Some meters text you if you are running out of time. Or if you got a phone, you have a timer app to input the time you paid for. A traffic cop has no way of knowing how long you were illegally parked- telling them you were only 20 mins late is worthless. It is their job to give people a ticket at expired spaces. If you pay for extra time and don't use it, it's much better than owning a $45+ ticket. They're both owned by the same company but the management of the building don't like us parking there because it takes up spaces for their employees . Today, I received another parking ticket for parking on private property. The thing is ,most of my colleagues park there when the spots are full. Stop playing victim here and act like you didn't deserve to the ticket. You were straight up told beforehand NOT to park there. Just because you know some co-workers did it doesn't make them right. You running late to work is on you. Are you sure numerous parking tickets don't go against your insurance? You have to prove who the driver was to give points. You can have another insured driver using your car. This is why there's none issued for traffic parking violations and red light/speeding cameras. They're also just another way for a city to collect more revenue.
Seraphim
I don't believe that is a service yet provided in Ontario where a parking meter will text you . I have never seen one. I believe the only Canadian city that offers that is Vancouver. A lot of services that you guys have in US is just not feasible here because there's not the population to support the service therefore not a big enough tax base to support the service. alli
I've gotten one parking ticket. It was in a college town & parking was extremely restricted; I didn't realize I couldn't park there I guess. I've gotten one speeding ticket & two for going through a red light. Each time I got a ticket for going through the light I wasn't even in a hurry. I just misjudged my distance from the intersection & the amount of time the light would remain yellow & went through it as it turned red. Whoops. alli
It's surprising that the parking is so limited where you work. You would think if there weren't enough spots for all of the workers that it would be a problem for some people every single day.
Dottieflanogon
OP, anytime you park at a meter it is your responsibility to monitor your time..It really isn't that hard I've used parking meters few times before the incident so I'm fully aware that it is my responsibility to monitor my time . Some meters text you if you are running out of time. Like what Victoria said, we don't have that service here in Ontario A traffic cop has no way of knowing how long you were illegally parked- telling them you were only 20 mins late is worthless. The parking enforcement officers who are assigned for that area routinely check for the offenders every hour or so because they are some people who try to park without paying .I've witnessed some vehicles receiving tickets because the drivers decided to take a chance and they lost. They can clearly see how long its been since the ticket has expired as it says it on the parking permits. Or else how would they know that the permit has expired? It is their job to give people a ticket at expired spaces.. Again, I'm fully aware of that If you pay for extra time and don't use it, it's much better than owning a $45+ ticket.. There is NO free parking down town in my city and driving back at home for another 30 minutes to spare was not option because it was traffic rush hours. We didn't discover that the restaurant opens at 5:00 pm after we already purchase a parking permit. The Down town area in my city is very busy so the nearest parking that was available was about 10 minute walk from the restaurant at that moment. The only option we had was to go back after the permit expires and buy another one. The maximum time you can get on permit is 2 hours. We couldn't discard an hour paid permit so we wont risk a ticket then drive back home in heavy traffic only to come back after 30 minutes. It would been a waste.I'm not trying to make any excuses or say the blame isn't on me but it happens,I'm only human. I'm not perfect and neither are you Stop playing victim here and act like you didn't deserve to the ticket... How am playing the victim?I don't see anywhere in my OP were I said it wasn't my fault. I even said "I know sometimes we take chances and we only have ourselves to blame at the end" clearly ,I know that it still my fault regardless of the circumstances which resulted in my citations of a parking violation. Like what I said in my OP the very first ticket I received, I honestly didn't know I couldn't park there the whole day since there is no signs. At the end it still committed a parking violation and it was still my problem. I simply paid for that ticket and moved on You were straight up told beforehand NOT to park there. Just because you know some co-workers did it doesn't make them right. You running late to work is on you.... Again, i'm already aware of this which is the reason why I now make an effort to arrive early .I know the reason why some of these co workers didn't receive tickets is because its simply luck. Like what j.man said some people rolled the dice and won. I even told this other lady who still parks there to be careful. She was even shocked that I received a ticket. Its not a matter of them being right or wrong but simply luck and being there at the wrong time. I know that it was still my fault Or else I would have tried to appeal. Instead I've already paid for the ticket online with my credit card Your comments couldn't be further couldn't be any further from the truth but I'm already aware of all what you said. I'm not looking for sympathy like 'poor me or anything like that. I'm not asking wether the tickets were fair or not, if I should appeal etc.I know that every time we screw up, the is always other things that we could have been done to prevent it but like what I said, I'm only human and not perfect My purpose in posting this isn't so much about trying to figure it out wether the tickets I received under these circumstances are fair or not. I just thought I'd share all the incidents on how I received my parking tickets in details. I was just interested in hearing other people's experiences about how they got their tickets if they did. Which is the reason I asked "How many parking tickets have you gotten? " at the end because I just wanted to have conversation about it. Some of the post that I see are mere conjecture for the purposes of conversation. Maybe I should have just kept it general and said "I have been driving for 3 years and have already received 3 parking tickets " How many parking tickets have you gotten''? Explaining how I got them details somehow came off as playing the victim even though that's not how intending it to come out ,I don't know
