redrose85
I was going to say the same thing as the others about the chinese food. Don’t worry! I’m sure it’s mainly water weight. No need to start over or throw your scale out the window My body is definitely cleaning itself out, thanks to the added help of chia seeds. My husband says they’re really effective too. I am SO glad he started this whole thing because I can’t do these things alone. I would have caved a bunch of times by now if I didn’t have him relying on me to support him and vice versa. That said, I am down 5 lbs! I have been losing the same 4 lbs over and over again for as long as I can remember, but never 5, so I feel this is REAL weight loss and am really pleased I am now 145, goal 115, and DH is 210, goal 200. Mesemene
Egads, somehow I managed the impossible, my falafels came out dry O-o. Usually it's the opposite, I can only think I didn't cook the chickpeas quite long enough, and right now I only have a mini food processor. Flavor is good though - so with a healthy dose of fresh veggies (pico di gallo, lettuce, cucumber) and a drizzle of yogurt sauce, quite palatable in a tomato basil WW tortilla. I was so craving some plain old rotisserie chicken, and wouldn't you know it, the rotisserie cooker at my grocery deli was broken! It's just going to be one of THOSE weekends! Link to comment

Tearsbegone
Back after a week of pain and seeing one of the many specialists. Gastro doc is not sure what is going on. Has ordered more blood work (thinks I could have celiac) and a CT scan of my intestines. He wants me to eliminate dairy for a few weeks and see how I feel- it's hard because as a vegetarian I live on yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, etc. Having been paying too much attention to weight. Just trying to get through the days. My life is at an all time low right now due to tons of things so trying to lose weight is super hard, especially when physically ill. I got in 3 workouts though but one day was too tired/sad and another too much pain. I'm overwhelmed. Not weighing myself because some days I'm bloated which makes my weight high and others I'm not- so I really don't know how to gauge weight other than how my clothing fits. Right now it's still super tight so I have a long ways to go in a few months here. Current: 140 Goat: 120-125 Cheers to you all! You are doing amazing inspiring work! Link to comment
sharky988
I'm so sorry you're going through such a rough time! But hopefully you'll be able to just eliminate certain foods and then your bloating/pain will end!! It's hard to live without dairy (I'm a vegan) but it's not impossible. There are many VERY GOOD substitutions you can make. I use raw cashews blended with water and use that "cream" to make so many delicious creamy sauces, salad dressings, cheese sauces, creamy potato salad/coleslaw type dishes, creamy soups, mac and cheese for my son, etc. etc. IF you do have to give it up for good, fear not as there are also soy and almond-milk based cheeses and yogurts and sour creams etc available in markets, too. But it sounds like you might be close to a diagnosis -- and a solution to the puzzle, which is a very good thing. Link to comment
Tanzi
I wound up doing Chinese on Sun nite as well --- it is bf's default dinner of choice. And I think the starch, as well as the sodium....makes you retain water. There is no way to gain 3 lbs from a meal. Unless you ate 10,000 calories! I knew the weigh in was coming, so I did a full day of fasting/liquids to flush my system....and got the water weight out. I have a habit of weighing myself the morning after a heavy night food-wise. I don't know why I bother to be honest. Curiosity more than anything. It also helps me get back on track. I do realise though that the extra weight isn't really a true representative of actual weight GAIN. I usually look upon it as various foods working their way through my system one way or another! As long as I eat healthily again immediately afterwards I generally lose that "weight gain" pretty quickly. It didn't seem to happen this time however. I do have to say, though, I was pretty bloated for days afterwards. The "weight gain" I guess was due to the bloatedness rather than actual weight gain. Then I started to feel pretty poorly and I went off track slightly anyway. The answer is so simple …. flush it out …. water, water and more water! Link to comment

It must be an enormous help to have someone do it with you! My daughter is half on it with me. It helps in the sense that after having cooked a meal for my other two children, she will sit with me and have a healthier option. It makes more sense to cook ANOTHER meal when I am cooking it for two. Egads, somehow I managed the impossible, my falafels came out dry O-o. Tanzi
I am sorry you are going through this too. I know it can't be easy to know where you are weight wise due to being bloated some days but your health is more important than any weight loss right now. All you can do is to continue to support your system and health (as Mesemene previous said) by eating as healthily as possible. Once you have found the source of the bloating, I am sure having looked after yourself beforehand will start paying off. Link to comment
redrose85
^ I have constant problems with bloating and pain. I connected the dots today and realized that it’s nuts in addition to dairy and wheat. Do you eat nuts? Link to comment
Mesemene
I'm having what I call a Revenge of Audrey day. You know, the plant in Little Shop of Horrors... "FEED ME, SEYMOUR!!!" I've just been ravenous today. So far I've had two half mushroom melt wraps (so 1 whole - about 12 oz mushrooms, 1 slice cheese, 1 gardenburger, 1 WW tortilla total) and 1 falafel wrap (1 small falafel, maybe 2-3 oz, couple tablespoons pico di gallo, several slices cucumber, lettuce, 1 tbs white bean/yogurt sauce on small WW tomato basil wrap) and about 12 oz baby carrots. I figure calorie wise I'm probably still ok - most of it is "bulky veggies" but oh BOY I feel like a piglet!!! Link to comment

sharky988
Down 6 pounds now. Losing a pound a day. Amazing!!!!! Good job. Just checking in -- I'm doing pretty well with sticking to a healthy regimen with just one big cheat every day over the past few days. Seriously I just wasn't going to be happy not enjoying my birthday. I had nothing too awful, no cake or desserts, but did have some alcohol and there was some eating out involved, so shoot me. Honestly I'm done, have had a clean day so far and happy to get back on track 100%. Two smoothies a day doesn't work for me, though. I think I just like food too much to drink 2 meals a day. I made up a pot of split pea soup and will continue on with one smoothie a day this week -- and soon can start spinning! It's really inspiring to come here and read everyone's progress! silversoul
This is a lovely thread, thought I would join My current weight is 132 lbs Aiming for 116 lbs Though my weight is considered normal for my height, I would like my features to be more defined and I think shedding those pounds would make me healthier and feeling more energised. Plus I'm running my first 10k in May and the less weight you carry around, the easier it's to run. I'm now thinking of participating in a half-marathon late in summer. I have no problem eating healthy, the main problem for me is eating at regular intervals, which is really important for weight loss. Just two weeks ago I had a downer day and allowed myself eating small pizza and half pint of Ben and Jerry's. I felt so awful and bloated next day. Never again! Healthy eating makes you feel so much better. I've given up coffee and sweets too, though I eat fruits and peanut butter regularly. I go to the gym three times per week and I would like to keep it up and aim to run 6 days per week. Link to comment
redrose85
Good for you, silversoul! It can be tough to eat right, and at regular intervals with a busy life. And who isn’t busy these days!? I am down 7 pounds! Getting so close to the first 10 that I can taste it!! I was 151 last Sunday and am now 143. I can’t believe after a whole decade of struggling, I’ve found something that works. That’s the good news. The bad news is that I am sick as a dog... I suspect my body is more susceptible to illness right now, and as luck would have it, a co-worker came back to work on Friday when she was clearly still sick. My throat is sore and swollen, so thank goodness that I am drinking tons of fresh juice anyways! I have been chowing down on anything with vitamin C and taking supplements, but my body is definitely under attack. Link to comment
mhowe
Sick as a dog myself...head cold, upset stomach and an impressive hurling bout yesterday. The silver clinging is down another 2 lbs. However...weak as a kitten and unless sleeping burns more calories than cardio....I am losing some ground. Hopefully better tmw! Link to comment
redrose85
Don’t stress about it, just rest. Hopefully we both wake up tomorrow miraculously better! Link to comment
Mesemene
Hiope you guys feel better tomorrow! I actually did decent enough today - ended the day with a large salad of baby kale, cucumber, sprinkle of parmesan, pomegranate vinaigrette dressing, and scattering of dried cranberries. BUT thanks to the hand surgery, I've fallen off the exercise wagon. I need to get back on and make up for lost time! Link to comment
redrose85
Copious amounts of vitamin C really seems to have helped. Too bad I didn’t sleep well last night...going to be a long day! I treated myself to a bowl of steamed edamame with sea salt and turmeric which was really good, and I also had a small apple heated up with cinnamon...tasted like the best part of apple pie 8 pounds down now, so if everything stays as it is now, I’ll be down 10 pounds for the first week, then we have just two weeks left to go for juicing. Strangely enough, I’m not tired of it yet because I’ve discovered I love raw food, edamame, and seaweed snacks... which are completely guilt free. I can’t imagine myself tucking into a giant plate of pasta or a cheesecake anymore. Link to comment

That horrible sore-throat-cold-thing was circulating around here about 3 weeks ago, and everyone got it. It was awful. I had a good day yesterday -- smoothies, kale chips, orange/grapefruit juice and lots of split pea soup. I'm just counting the days until my spin bike arrives.... I was so gung-ho on the ski machine and then my stupid shoulder started aching again, grrrrrrrr! Oh well. Link to comment
redrose85
Can you guys be honest with me? Is a pound a day too much, too fast? I mean, I'm not hungry, I am active every day, even if it's just going for a walk, I'm drinking lots of water, and taking vitamins/mixing green protein into my juices. My husband feels good too. Are we just setting ourselves up for failure though? I mean, say I lose the 30 pounds, we go back to eating meals, even reduced calorie meals... is my weight just going to jump back up because it's not juice? I keep seeing all these articles online about how these "diets" (it doesn't feel like a diet...strangely enough) don't work in the long run. Funnily enough, I didn't really count on myself losing any weight on this, I just wanted to get my body working properly again. Link to comment
IAmFCA
1 pound a week = ok 1 pound a day = too fast, not healthy, and not sustainable. Important to change habits, and maintain / increase your metabolism. What you need to do for 1 pound/day will likely result in REDUCED metabolism, making it actually harder to lose weight. Link to comment
redrose85
Maybe it will slow down? If I were hungry or feeling malnourished, it would make sense. So weird how the body works! When I want to lose weight I can't, and when I need to lose weight slower, it comes off faster! Link to comment
sharky988
It's really not unusual to lose that much that quickly when you're doing lots of juices and raw foods. If you go back to eating a highly processed diet, you'll probably gain all the weight back. But if you go ahead and lose this weight and then keep up eating a whole foods diet, then you should be able to maintain the weight loss. If you're worried about your health, check out Dr. Joel Fuhrman (he's the doctor who supervised that guy on "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead", by the way!). He has a whole foods eating plan much like the one you're doing now, and on his website you'll read plenty of stories from people who rapidly lost a lot of weight eating that way and are perfectly healthy, curing themselves of diseases, and maintaining the weight loss. The standard 1-2 pounds loss per week being healthy doesn't apply when you eat a mostly raw, plant-based diet. Link to comment
IAmFCA
Agree re raw/whole foods, and if the focus is on weight loss, just be sure to keep exercising. I recommend exercises that use th elegs, like running, walking, swimming, elliptical, etc -- at a level consistent with your health level. I recommend leg-based exercises because these are the large muscle groups, so building up those muscles will have a greater impact on your metabolism. As you increase your metabolism, you will burn more calories standing still (and otherwise). Link to comment
