"My Skinny Summer" Weight Loss Journey

I don't blame you as regards the measuring. I wasn't going to weigh myself initially because I knew I was at my heaviest and I wasn't sure I really wanted to know how much I weighed. However, I decided that weighing myself might be the kick up the butt I needed to really start taking this seriously.

I have allowed myself a few cheats this weekend too. I think cheats are necessary tbh. Without having anything to look forward to, it is all too easy to fall off the wagon.

You've certainly done well and remain focused so I'm sure you are going to get a very pleasant surprise when you do take a measurement.

I agree. I can't stay on any regimen for the long haul without occasional cheats.

I've been pretty good on the food so far -- but I need to get my butt in gear on exercise. I have kettlebells, a ski machine and a treadmill.... so no excuses!!

I'm going to try and do SOMETHING 6 days a week. Today I did ski machine -- woo hoo!

Well done to everyone with the weight loss

I went to Aerobics class again today and will try Spin class tomorrow. 2 times at the gym a week is realistic though I want to aim for 3.

Not doing great with the food. Mostly because I have gone out drinking and then I am hungry

I am trying to eat less food and less crap at least, that's a start.

When I was unemployed and went on a weight loss journey I did really well because I planned my meals, cooked every day and was able to eat them at specific times. I find it hard to keep that scedule now..

That is one of my other downfalls. Last night, however, I turned down the opportunity for a greasy burger even though everyone I was with were tucking into them.

Well done!

Did you have something healthier or nothing at all?

I think it's about being prepared and either eat before going out or always have some soup at home. But I might go out after work and it really throws me then.

And I love pubs and drinks !! I do try to stick to 2 drinks but last week I went out 4 nights

I didn't have anything. I stood in the burger bar watching them munching away. I did pick at some chips that belonged to someone else but only a few. It was pretty torturous at the time but afterwards they were having those typical guilty feelings and complaining of "feeling fat", whereas I felt really good!

I weighed myself again this morning. I wasn't planning on weighing myself this morning (once a week will do!) but I wanted to know what the effects of the weekend may have had on my weight loss (or rather any weight gain). I am glad to say that it is still the same as Friday. I wasn't expecting to have lost any but I could quite easily have put some on, though I was as careful as I could have been.

So, on we go!

I managed 20 mins on my stepper last night. It was creaking and making an awful racket and my girls were getting fed up with the noise it was making so I stopped after 20 mins (or rather I had an excuse to stop!!). Will have another "go" tonight.

Hope all of your own weight loss journeys are going well!

Alright for the stepper!!! Nice job. Did you feel thinner this morning? I did 20 mins on the NordicTrack yesterday and really felt the impact.

Sad but true: diet + exercise = weight loss. Shocker!!

Yesterday I let myself have grains while I clear out my groceries before the smoothie-fest begins. I had a big smoothie in the morning, then made a pot of veg/coconut curry and had that the rest of the day over brown rice. I'm suspicious about grains generally, but I'm really pleased with how much thinner I'm feeling today! Will probably continue this until mid-week, when I can switch to more smoothies.

I'm back on the ski machine today at noon for another 20 mins.

I certainly felt it in my legs this morning! Yep there is no getting away from the fact that exercise helps speed up the weight loss process - plus at 46 I could do with the toning!!!!

Well done with the 20 mins on the NordicTrack, you've certainly got the exercise routine under wraps.

The veg & coconut curry sounds delicious. I'm not a keen lover of brown rice but then again I haven't had it in a while. Maybe I just need to stick with it to let my tastebuds get used to it. It always tastes hard and almost uncooked to me!

I was a bit naughty this morning and had some toast, though only a thin slice. I have a serious lack of time before the school run in the mornings. I could wait until after I'm back before eating but I find it hard to run on empty as per the school runs. I had a smoothie for lunch and I'm having some roasted veggies for tonights tea so I think that should make up for it!

So.... I'm just putting it out there to you as something else to consider. I never took that whole "gluten free" thing seriously at all before that happened.

I never had a severe reaction like yours, but I will add this to the discussion: I never realized how bad I felt on a day to day basis, and how that was the norm, until I cut out grain.

I have to agree. I put on a lot of weight when I first went vegan and tried to follow all the "healthy" recommendations about making grains the basis of your diet. What a crock. It made me so exhausted all the time! And I thought I had Fibromyalgia -- or maybe even Lupus -- because of the severe muscle aches. Then as soon as I cut out grains, it all went away!

True -- I was surprised it filled me up! Coconut is really filling, though. Truth is, I was stuffed all day. I DON'T do hungry!

Reading through the Incredible Smoothies website.... the woman who runs it dropped 40 pounds doing 2 smoothies a day, which got me thinking about giving this a try when I've gone through my current stock of groceries. Recently I've been having a quart of orange/grapefruit juice and 1-2 quarts of smoothie the past few days anyway. Hmmmm.....

That's crazy! For some reason I always associate coconut (like in curry) as being super caloric and high fat. I know it's one of the good fatty acids that helps your brain, etc. I am going to try this! How do you make it exactly?

That's awesome! And yeah we all need cheats. Its a lifestyle, not a diet.

Ugh. Put on weight this weekend. Its so odd because I am exercising more. I don't think it's medical anymore. I think I figured it out- new relationship. We eat out every time we see each other. I try and make healthy choices now (I wasn't in the beginning) but its still not as good as eating at home. I don't have my own place so I can't cook and he doesn't have the tools, etc. plus eating out is a large part of dating right?

I started drinking coffee again too with him- cream and sugar- do you think that could be affecting things?

When we aren't on a date (we see each other about 2 times a week) it seems like I can get my weight down.

This is my all time highest weight. I sit in bed most of the day due to my pain (but still manage a very light 30 min on the eliptical). I'm wondering if I am not moving around enough. I also wonder if I should just stop eating. UGH

I had 2 whole grain with glad seed waffles with a bit of peanut butter for Bfest. My mom made soup- vegi stock, Israeli cous cous, carrots, onion, spinach, and a few vegi meatballs. I did 30 min of light eliptical. Just drank tea in the morning and water. What is going on?! I'm blowing up!

Hopefully the gastro specialist will be able to give you some answers. When are you scheduled in to see him?

I do agree that being in a relationship makes you put on weight. I put all this weight on during my last relationship. That's why I want to use this time to get slimmer and healthy again. If I ever find myself in another relationship, I am going to have to find a suitable maintenance diet or regime so that it doesn't happen again.

I've said that before though. Why do we let it happen I wonder?

Raw coconut is good for you! I have them every now and then -- you just open them up and pry out the meat. Full-fat canned coconut milk, which is what's used in curries, can be high in calories. For curries I use the the canned low-fat or make my own milk from blending coconut (fresh or shreds) with water. I can post the curry recipe if you'd like!

A great day yesterday and feeling like I might be able to face the tape measure soon. Did my workout and ate well: green smoothie breakfast.... curry and rice and a big orange/grapefruit juice mid-day.... baked potato with vegan nacho cheez sauce for dinner. I need to have some salad today!

I'm always shocked at what a big difference exercise makes. It really IS worth the effort.

SO glad to have started this now -- with plenty of time until summer!

Now when I eat I feel like I shouldn't be....

Sweetie, always eat when you feel physically hungry! But I'd still consider -- just as an experiment -- eliminating wheat products for a week and see if that affects your bloating and weight gain! It's totally your call, but when there's bloating and pain and weight gain, that's the first thing that comes to mind for me anyway.

Exactly! For me it is always kick starting a diet. Once I'm on it, it isn't so bad.

That said, this morning I had pancakes … but it is Shrove Tuesday (i.e. pancake day so it wouldn't have been right NOT to have had pancakes. We all got up especially early to have them for breakfast as opposed to having them later. A smoothie for lunch and a salmon salad should make up for it though.

Wooo-hooo -- you are ON your game, girl! Your plan sounds great -- so what if you have pancakes? It's the big picture that counts. I'm actually pretty excited about starting this 2 smoothies a day thing.... I really hope it's do-able. I like eating FOOD, so it's going to be a challenge!

Same could be said for you. You're REALLY on your game!

I want to get on the Smoothie thing too - they can be quite filling though so hopefully it shouldn't be SOOO bad ;-)

I hope everyone else is toughing it out!

My trainer gave me a tip --- always strive for a calorie deficit day.

So, if you have pancakes....up the cardio.

If you have done a lot of exercise, certainly don't negate it with a "treat".

So --- out of 7 days, aim for 4 caloric deficits....protect your investment!!

And don't have a complete blow out day once a week --- that is not protecting the investment!!!
