"My Skinny Summer" Weight Loss Journey

Recommended Posts

I had a great day for weight loss yesterday -- kind of rebelling from my routine of soup/salad/smoothie, yesterday was SNACK DAY. I had half a coconut and untold multitudes of kale chips and several quarts of fresh orange/grapefruit juice. All that plus a huge salad, it was a weird day but I definitely feel thinner already and like I'm on the right path this morning.

I've never done Zumba -- I'm curious to hear your thoughts! I'll be able to start kettlebells this weekend, oh joy.

I feel as if I am well and truly on the right path now too. Looking forward to "weigh-in Friday" tomorrow!!

I shall let you know how Zumba goes.

Just slowly typing one handed and checking in! Surgery went great. First time ever popping out of anesthesia like a nice sleep with no groggies or nausea! Tech was a bit freaked - he said one minute i was out, the bext awake and aware like nothing happened.

This week since I can't do the gym, i'm thinking about getting some ankle and wrisy weights to wear around the house and when walking for a bit extra resistance

Congrats! That's great

I've done Zumba many different times, with many different teachers and the experience varies. Some teachers are very challenging and some have much lower impact classes - and there is a draw for both types of classes. I really like Zumba classes (and dance) so hopefully you will enjoy it too! I don't consider it the most challenging class at the gym but it is fun and Zumba has successfully helped many people become active and lose weight!

Feel horrible. With all the stress I have hardly been eating then I eat crap. I feel so low. I have never gained weight. It always comes off if I ever gain a pound but starving myself doesnt even take off a pound. Is this medical? I am so frustrated.

Tears, have you tried eliminating wheat from your diet?

I had been cutting back on bread, pasta and most grains for several months.... then inadvertantly ended up eating A TON of bread stuffing and some other baked goods over last Thanksgiving -- the resulting bloating and cramping was so severe that I was ready to go to the emergency room. The only reason I didn't was that it hit in the middle of the night and I didn't want to wake up my family. It gradually eased up over the following days, but I have NEVER touched one bite of anything containing gluten ever again (and never will). So far, there's never been another attack.

The pain and cramping was as bad as labor pains. I was literally doubled over and unable to move and crying out in pain. I've since learned that my reaction was probably made more severe because I hadn't had any grains for a few months, and then really pigged out all at once.

So.... I'm just putting it out there to you as something else to consider. I never took that whole "gluten free" thing seriously at all before that happened.

Just to check in: had another good day for weight loss yesterday. Really feeling in the zone now, which is nice.

Yesterday I got back on the ski machine -- not for a full half-hour, but still I'm proud of myself for getting back on! Baby steps. And pleased to report I was SORE AS HELL the whole day afterwards hahahahaha!

Foodwise, a good day: orange/grapefruit juice and 1/2 a coconut for breakfast..... big salad w/kidney beans and vegan ranch for lunch.... split pea soup for dinner. Making more kale chips and some eggplant jerky in the dehydrator this weekend for some serious noms!

Weigh in Friday!

OK, so I was 144lbs this morning (10st 4lbs) so I have lost 3lbs since weighing in last week. For me I think that is pretty good seeing as I had to pretty much write-off the weekend and I ended up being invited over to a friends for dinner. She cooked a curry. I wasn't looking forwards to getting on the scales this morning but I was pleasantly surprised.

Thank you for your post! I think I will enjoy it too - though I would prefer to have a lower impact class until I get my Zumba feet! I'm not the fastest learner when it comes to dance of any kind!

I think you'll do well! Just keep moving even if you get lost in the motion. Most instructors repeat some songs from class to class so after doing the song/moves a few times, you should pick up more of the steps. I focus more on having fun and staying in motion during Zumba - the footwork is what it is, just don't let it discourage you when some of the steps don't come together. Sometimes the teacher will go over footwork for new songs and sometimes you just have to go with it! Most importantly, enjoy yourself!

Sounds good! Sad I can't afford the glasses- are the DVd's as good?

Thanks for your response. I have blood in my urine and all other sorts of things so they do not believe it is food related. As of now it's cystitis and endometriosis. Next week I see the gastro and urologist to find out what is going on with the stomach and bladder.

Hopefully you will get a diagnosis soon and they will be able to treat you! Let us know how you get on.

True -- I was surprised it filled me up! Coconut is really filling, though. Truth is, I was stuffed all day. I DON'T do hungry!

Reading through the Incredible Smoothies website.... the woman who runs it dropped 40 pounds doing 2 smoothies a day, which got me thinking about giving this a try when I've gone through my current stock of groceries. Recently I've been having a quart of orange/grapefruit juice and 1-2 quarts of smoothie the past few days anyway. Hmmmm.....

I haven't used a Zumba DVD but I think that class experience is almost always better. I struggle finding my own motivation at home so I almost always go to a class to workout. Check your local library or Netflix (if you use that) for Zumba DVDs - I know friends who have used those methods for some low cost workouts.

Same! I think I am going to get on that. Smoothies are surprisingly filling.

Have you been keeping tabs on your weight loss? You must be doing well!

I keep meaning to "measure in" as well.

Tbh, I can tell I'm losing -- but I know myself too well to take a measurement yet. I'm too likely to get bummed by a bad number this early on -- plus, I can get obsessive about measuring too often. So for now I'm just going to ride this wave of doing what feels right and using my clothes as a judge until I'm brave enough to face the tape measure! I have several inches to go -- and I DO have a firm goal number, so there's no fooling myself about where I need to end up.

I'm doing well but I've let myself have some cheats. I went out and had a few skinny margaritas Friday night. Yesterday morning I woke up craving potatoes, so I made a pan of homefries and onions and happily ate every bit of it! But then I made up for it with a grapefruit/orange juice lunch and a smoothie for dinner. No regrets!

The thing about smoothies -- for me, anyway -- is making sure I have enough. I need almost 2 quarts to make it a meal, and 2 or 3 bananas, otherwise I get hungry too soon. But I'm on board to start this routine next week!
