Seraphim
Usually though you will see more illness when they start school. Unless of course they have been to daycare. The kids that I care for in daycare are constantly sick, dripping snot, sneezing ,coughing. After a few years though their immune system catches up. My son didn't go to daycare so when he got to school at three years old he was sick constantly for about three years. He had exposure to other children but usually it's not enough exposure until they go to school or daycare.

The first year he had one or two colds, one ear infection and one 24 hour stomach bug. The second year he had one cold with fever and one 24 hour stomach bug (that likely was food poisoning). Hoping for a similarly good third year He never was in full time daycare.

And then when he started school it was strep throat every time we turned around. And then he got a skin infection, colds ect.

Unfortunately what you described is more typical of my friends' experiences. Another thing I avoid is playground sand boxes. Ick.
OptomisticGirl
I've heard about the benefits of toddlers eating dirt, etc and not using sanitizer -I believe in more of a balance and not labeling someone obsessed at the drop of a hat just because the sanitizer/wipes are in full view.... I think this is the best you can do. I know with Tyler on the one hand we were told to sanitize, sanitize, sanitize with him (because he was 2 months premie) but at the same time the doctors were like the more he can build his immune system up (by getting bugs) the better. Yes - it's a tough balance. I'm far more into hand washing with soap and water (or using an alcohol free wipe) rather than sanitizing.
