Probably a silly question, but I'll ask anyway.

 

To increase my social circle/skills etc, I'm going to join Meetup, and go to some events.

 

Where I live, it seems to be more of an older crowd. No problem, as I want to improve my skills anyway.

 

However, I'm thinking of mentioning that I'm single, and if they know anyone who would be good for me etc. Do you think this would work?

It's really not something you say directly to people you've just met. Fine if it comes out of conversation that you are single and looking, just don't ask them to set you up. If people like you and feel they know someone who might be a good match, they might arrange an introduction. You just don't come to a group of people who are pretty much strangers and start angling or pumping them for dates. You'll just get yourself ostracized from the group.

I think it depends if you're male or female, what your dating preferences are, and I agree they will probably try and set you up which can be awkward or incredible.
