She didn't react, except for that one comment about it "not being good". It's fine. I'm not worried about it. She is fine, I think. If not, i'm not too worried about it either.

However, that got me thinking, "why is it such a big deal?"

How do you know it was that big a deal to her anyway because, from her reaction, it seems it might not be THAT big a deal.

Did you follow up the date?

Oh dear. I thought we were talking about a simple faux pas.

Just take it from the women on here .... mentioning your ex to a date (or any future date) is a faux pas. Simple. Full stop. Period!

However, if you want to go your own way and not follow the rules of having basic common courtesy then so be it ... but if you meet someone you like, why blow it just because you now feel the need to prove that you don't want to follow what others blindly followed.

Did you try to follow up with another date btw?

I take in all that is discussed, but take everything with a pinch of salt. It's not about trying to prove that my way is the right way. I am not trying to preach on anything. Quite the opposite.

As for another date, that is going to be hard given that we live on two different continents.

As I said before, I'm not too concerned about what happens nor should I be since this "relatinoship" is barely in its infancy.

I'm a bit confused .... what "relationship" is in its infancy?

We only started dating a week before I left the country. This is why I am not too concerned about what happens, nor should I be.

This thread really isn't really about my current dating situation as it is about wanting to hear the rationale behind a certain popularly held belief.

I do agree that some girls in the dating game really need to get over themselves, and when a guy doesn't shower them with roses, dinners, compliments - basically treating her like a divine godess - and goes into a strop about it, they need to get a grip. Sometimes straight up honesty is best when someone asks you a question, it can really be appreciated in the long run and set good grounds for a solid, open relationship.

Another point to this i'd like to add is that when a women does asks for honesty, that she does not completely FLIP OUT when delivered. Sometimes, honesty is simply not the best policy.

I'm not saying you should be! I just wondered why you considered it a faux pas if it didn't hinder you being in a relationship with ther.

I see from your comment that the water buffolo is just enjoying the chase! ;-)

It may have very well ended things.. but the relationship barely got off the ground. I'm not going to cry over it. There were other things in the conversation that gave me pause that I won't get into here.

I think the water buffalo got away lol
