Feeling overwhelmed at my new job. What to do?

I started a new job as a bank teller last Monday. So far I do enjoy it but I'm feeling very overwhelmed. There is so much to learn I'm not sure how I'll ever catch on. I've worked with money before but not at a bank but there are so many procedures and rules I'm getting very frazzled at times and confused. To make it worse, I was hired with another girl who has worked in a bank before and she has already caught on and working on her own. I know I'm new at this but I don't want them to compare us as it will make me look bad. I'm taking notes and trying my hardest but I'm so very worried that I won't catch on and end up losing this job.

Has anyone else had this type of experience? Or maybe has worked as a bank teller and can give me some tips? There's just a lot that I don't understand. Thanks for any help.

I've not worked as a bank teller but I have had jobs where there were lots of protocols to follow and codes to learn. Relax. Taking notes is a very good move. Give yourself time to get into the swing. You won't catch on instantly but you will look back in a week or two and be amazed at how far you've come.

And don't be afraid to ask when you don't know something.

I think you will be okay, each day brings a little more confidence. Don't worry about the faster learners they make mistakes too and it's always nice when they ask you for advice or instruction. As for working with money, follow the protocols and jot down notes on unusually situations and ask for help. Just about every organization has someone that wants to help and in that light, has a real opposite. Find the good one and ask questions. Good luck.

Give it 6 months. It usually takes that long to get the swing of things. I had worked for a dentist office for 7 yrs then had to move. I worked at the same type of job but had to learn new things all over. Its been 6 months and I am still learning but if it makes you depressed don't stay. Health is betrer than wealth.

I am dealing with this now too. If your job has a support system... use it to your advantage. Be mindful of how you ask because you don't want to look totally incapable... but that you are willing to learn (or relearn a system) and put it into practice correctly. Always check with someone who knows the procedures well to see if you did something correctly.

But whatever you do... don't be too hard on yourself. Give it a couple months and use this time to ask for clarification.
