Hate to say it but in my experience it is usually the case.

 

My ex wife (with who I had 3 small kids) said:

"It is too late for us - there is no chance of reconciliation" and there wasn't (that was 7.5 years ago)

 

With my most recent ex, even at the point of BU, said:

"At some point along the line, when we feel differently, maybe we can try again"

 

I think people usually say what they believe and more importantly, in order to move on, you must believe them.

I was told never ever and time won't heal. I am six months into a reconcilliation, but it's hard, really really hard, lots of baggage, trust issues on his side, nasty antagonistic behaviour, negativity, scrutiny etc.

For me personally I have only heard this once. And...it's not THAT big of a deal, because we were pretty much just FWB. Nothing in particular happened to end it, it had just been going on for a couple months and he decided not to hang out anymore. However, while the FWB situation was fine since we made that clear with each other from the beginning, truth be told I really could see myself actually dating him somewhere down the line. I just don't understand how someone could be so sure that they would never ever want to be intimate with a person again? If it's true then so be it, I just don't get it. I will have strong opinions about someone at any given moment, but I never make any definitive decisions. People are different I guess. *shrug*

I bet your ex also told you that they would love you always. And at the time they probably meant that, too.
